Just got my set in the mail today and holy crap it is freaking HUGE. very similar in size and physical presentation as the smaller of the two Herschell Gordon Lewis sets. Absolutely beautiful artwork, amazingly high quality books...this thing is easily worth twice what it's going for.

I’m very tempted by this set. I absolutely all the Godzilla films and a lot of other monster movies but I haven’t seen any of these. But I’m wondering if I should just take the risk before the set becomes OOP. Are these films safe blind buys?

If nothing else, you’ll likely find stuff to enjoy in the original film and the Heisei trilogy. Most of the Showa films are a mixed bag of story, characters, low budget special effects and shoddy stock footage implementation. It’s endearing in a so-bad-it’s-good kind of way (like Godzilla vs Megalon); your mileage may vary.
At the very least you could try them out and resell for most or all of your money once it becomes harder to find.

Does it have a similar height to a blu-Ray case or is it 11” tall like The Game LE they just released in the UK?

It's about the size of a cereal box. You can see James Flower from Arrow showing it off here at 36:17:

I don't know if anyone noticed this on their package from diabolik but they actually put insurance on this package
I am not sure if they do it for all packages they ship out or just the expensive ones

very true, the only thing i am hoping is that criterion doesn't ship out the varda set early as well, since all i need is two boxsets to get though at once which is never fun

Don't know anything about The Game LE set but it's way bigger than a blu-ray case.

I'm one of the 10-year gold backers so it came direct from MVD.
