Official PS3 Crackling Audio Thread

Since then, I said 'screw it' and built myself an HTPC with a bluray drive. Sure enough, there is absolutely no crackle, no issue and I'm still sending the audio as LPCM via HDMI to my receiver. The only difference is the bluray player itself: PS3 vs. HTPC. The receiver, cables, speakers, etc are all identical.

Sony dropped the ball on this one and I'm sorry that the few of us who clearly hear the crackle can't get any justice. For the 98% of people out their whose ears are not good enough or whose system is incapable of detail, they will never know.

Let me know how the test goes with the Sony BDP-S1. I was contemplating buying a standalone player, but decided an HTPC would function better for all my music.

Out of curiosity, what components make up your system?

Well, I got a standalone Blu-ray and I am bitstreaming now. The noise is still there telling me that it is a characteristic of the Blu-ray disc and not so much the PS3. Sometimes having hearing like this is a bad thing.
