I just bring my porta potty into the living room when I watch long movies. Before coronavirus, I would have been very self-conscious and circumspect about doing something like this. But now, no. I say, live without fear. Really live.

Watched Leave Her to Heaven for the first time last night.

Went in almost blind, and was very pleasantly surprised. Very intense film. Great technicolor colours, and great intensity and a brooding feeling throughout.

Fantastic surprise. Anyone who likes noir or psychological thrillers, definitely grab it in the next sale.

So another B&N Sale ends. It's probably wishful thinking on my part that these Sales do for B&N's media inventory what "Record Store Day" does for independent record shops in that it serves as a lifeline to extend keeping physical entertainment in stock and the stores afloat.

this happened to me last November. Eyes without a face was out of stock for like the last 2 weeks of the sale. The day after it ended all of a sudden what do you know there's a few copies in stock.

This was Come and See, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and The Golden Age of Television. I kept a pretty close eye on them and every time I checked there were no options to order. Another anomaly was War of the Worlds wouldn’t ship to Hawaii, which I figured was some contractual issue.

There is also another way to watch a movie.

In the bathroom.

Instead of your vanity mirror, replace it with a flat screen 4k tv.

Modify your toilet so it has armrests and a button for a footrest.

Imagine that?

Then when you have to go the bathroom, well, you're already in the bathroom and won't worry about pausing the film for a single second!

It gives new meaning to dropping a load... after loading a blu-ray disc.

A toilet that reclines would also be a game changer.

Oh, good then because I forgot to try and place an order, after giving up multiple times as all items I had saved were suspiciously out of stock temporarily. Hopefully by the next one they will have resumed shipping overseas.

I can't wait to watch it, I had to cancel the order from wowhd and place another one elsewhere as they just weren't shipping it.
I bet it's a feast for one's eyes.

Trouble in Paradise is charming enough Lubitsch but it didn’t knock me out as much as any of his 40’s trifecta of To Be Or Not To Be, Heaven Can Wait or The Shop Around the Corner.

It’s a very likeable film with smooth performances that ooze sex appeal and are beautifully in sync with each other, witty one liners, sublime set design and tight direction. Miriam Hopkins is delightful towards the start (her entry scene is dynamite) and end of the film but gets sidelined through the middle. Thankfully Herbert Marshall and Kay Francis have enough sparkling chemistry that Hopkins’ absence isn’t too sorely missed. But I do wonder what could have been if there more interplay between the three of them.

As it is, I found it clever and charming but neither as zanily hilarious as To Be or Not To Be or parts of Heaven can Wait nor as affecting as The Shop Around the Corner.

I saw it off the Eureka DVD which is sourced from a HD master and is a much better option than the Criterion DVD. It looks pretty good but with Universal quite busily restoring their classic film catalog, hopefully those gets a blu upgrade from a Criterion via a new restoration sometime soon. The Art Deco set design alone would make it a must purchase.

What's the chances of Criterion perhaps releasing Polanski's The Pianist?
I watched it last night and it's still powerful as ever. Even though they've released 3 of his films in the past do y'all think Criterion is giving him a hard pass due to current emphasis on cancel culture ? Yes, I'm aware of the release of the Tenant from Shout but it could be a rights thing for them.

I saw "Trouble in Paradise" at UCLA a few years ago and they indicated that Criterion has had trouble finding a good source for an HD master.

I also sort of agree with you on the movie; I recognize that it is technically great, especially the performances, and there are some very funny things, but I don't really root for the two leads. Intellectually I am with the movie, but emotionally it leaves me cold. I understand that you don't always need to side with the main character, but I do think that a big part of a romantic comedy is wanting the lead romantic pairing to be successful, and for me, this movie fails that test; by the end of the movie, I don't want them to be together.

Even at 50% discount, Criterions are expensive for most people. Where I live (Northern Europe), you can go to a new movie in cinema and have two drinks and a large popcorn for $20 – just to put it into perspective. I do buy Criterions, but not too often, and only when there is a discount, because I also have to import them, making it even more expensive.
blurayisnice with Amazon-usa for example, with their most expensive shipping option if you order 3 titles together it becomes quite reasonable as they arrive very quickly. Just don't expect your import fees deposit back.

The Kino Lorber Insider revealed someone picked up the rights. It's either Criterion or Shout probably. If Criterion picked it up, they might be having second thoughts.

Thanks. I guess we'll see if and who'll release it in North America, which as of now has never been released on Blu ray. I can see Criterion releasing it since it's such a prestige title, but on the other hand, Polanski is such a political hot potatoe, I could understand they would pass on this.

How far in advance do they announce the flash sale. I've never ordered anything directly from Criterion before.
