Disney really screwed the pooch!

Is that why the latest release of Apocalypto was through SGF?

If this is true, Disney is officially dead to me and I won't support any of their new movies ever again.
There are so many nice older live action Disney movies and they don't want to release them on physical 4K? And even worse, they bought Fox and Fox has sooooooo many amazing movies I want to see in 4K. But now they also want to bury those too?
If that's true, they can go f*** themselves...

Sorry for the rant ^^""

Does this mean they also won't be releasing their Disney live action movies on 4k disc? Like the new Mulan. Or will they just focus on animations, Marvel and Star Wars? I do assume Disney classics won't be getting 4k releases either (besides the ones already made like Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin).

Not a good sign for physical media. I do use Disney+, but only ''on top of it''. Sometimes it's easier to turn on Disney+. Pirates and the Caribbean are 4k on Disney+, while they never released them on disc. Sadly that will never happen I suppose.

I assumed Pirates would come fairly soon. Especially to coincide with the next movie(s) they’re developing. I still think we could see the odd one if it ties in with anything they’ve got upcoming.

But yeah...we just need to pin our hopes on them licensing out to someone else. The wealth of Fox movies caught up in this is just so depressing.

I mean, what did they even buy them for? It’s starting to look more and more like the reason is so nobody else did.

Just read the article:

Quote:
In essence, my sources said, beyond new release theatrical titles, animated fare from Disney and Pixar, or Star Wars and Marvel-related projects, there were no plans at the studio going forward to release titles on physical 4K Ultra HD—future releases would be 4K Digital only.

There's also the case of new streaming service that was revealed by Bob Chapek:

https://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2020...ke-star-brand/

Quote:
Disney is to launch a new international general entertainment streaming service in 2021.

It will use the Star brand acquired by Disney as part of its acquisition of properties from News Corp.

During a call following Disney’s third quarter earnings, CEO Bob Chapek said the new platform would be similar to the US domestic Hulu with a broader entertainment service for a more mature audience.

The 20th Century Fox brand is familiar to audiences in Indian and South Asia.

Disney already runs Disney+ Hotstar that combines both the Disney and Star brands in the Indian market.

Disney+ had 57.5 million subscribers globally as of June 27.

I can see them making exceptions to some of the films and Pirates is one of them if a sequel is made.
Other exceptions are Enchanted because a sequel is being developed, and Mary Poppins because of its Classic status being on par with the animated classics. But probably that's it.

Yeah, i really hope they end up changing their minds down the road. I know it might not be extremely likely, but just a tiny possibility would be enough for me.

I’ll buy all the Disney UHD that I want from what’s available.

I don’t “buy” digital copies anymore. I was buying iTunes movies till my Daniel Craig movies suddenly went from 4K to HD for a while with no eta for them coming back. Now the Goonies has gone from 4K to HD till the end of the month and digital movie buyers are OK with temporary loss of movies.

I have only used someone else’s Disney+ account ( a friend who was visiting) and I would not support any steaming service including Netfux. I have other people’s logins (that they share willingly) and I still don’t use them lately because I keep the internet bandwidth for my kids who use it more.

I prefer UHD and when they stop making them I may stop buying them but I won’t switch to leasing movies from a subscription service. I won’t support that.

This makes me sad if it means no Speed 4k, Roger Rabbit 4K, or 4K releases of things that have it digitally like Sword in the Stone. Maybe they could do DMC exclusives for some 4Ks.

Yes, this is pretty much our only hope that Disney licenses out some of the Fox catalog stuff. It's definitely possible unless they want to be even bigger you know what.

Not happy with Disney at all over this. This is just a move imo to get people to go all Digital because they want to max out subscribers and profits for Disney+. It's easier money for them to get people to buy everything digitally.

If true, this is definitely disappointing. The lack of a physical purchase option, for whatever reason, is a step backwards in regards to both quality and consumer protection.

I’ll support UHD BD and I wish we all would but for people who don’t care at all about the quality steaming claims to have fancy aspects like 4K and Atmos

Maybe physical media will diminish,... sure does make me glad for what I already have !

I soon will be able to watch a different movie every night of the year on UHD BD and when I lose memory in my old age I may only need a handful of films because they will be forever new.

It’s like 3D ,... they may stop making them and if so I’m so glad I have them.

If you like something, get it while you can.
