ARC should work, it needs to be turned on under Setup>4.HDMI Setup>a.ARC On/Off.

Is it turned on? It also needs to be enabled with your LG TV, if optical is selected, it may disable ARC. Also check that the audio is set to a format that's supported.

You may also have to power on the Onkyo first then the TV.
