To stay on the "Guns & Blu" topic, Rambo should have been mentioned. The .50's are off the hook in that. Same w/ the .50's on Miami Vice. The ones in "Shooter" were very good but not quite like the other two movies.

edit: The Kingdom...great gunfire sounds in the apartment shootout.

Guns and excitement while entertaining - are not the best surround material IMHO. I like ambient type stuff. The woods, nature, forest - insects - stuff that fool me to the point that I don't even recognize my speakers. I love it when someone is over my house and there's a door bell ring and they ask me if I'm going to answer the door - don't get me wrong though - I like the exciting stuff too - the lion scene in I am Legend gets me everytime even though I know its coming!!!

Master & Commander -- aside from the obvious battle scenes, just the scenes where there out at sea are really cool. The wood creaking, the ocean air, the wind. Great reference disc.

I think action scenes in general are what REALLY shines in surround.... however, a great score/soundtrack in ANY setting shines in surround.

Example - while Punisher: Warzone was an overall TERRIBLE movie... I really thought the audio track was amazing... in fact, it was the only thing keeping me from turning it off.

Rambo was beautiful, and was the first thing I tested out my new speakers/sub with.

Just watched Slumdog Millionaire Monday night, and I thought the soundtrack was masterful! It really did sound like you were sitting smack dab in the middle of Mumbai (sp?).

Or when a dog barks and your dog jumps up and starts looking for it.... when you know darn well your dog just lays there like ass pimple when dogs bark on lesser quality tracks.

NO.... most people just appreciate "in your face" surround effects as opposed to subtle nuances for some reason...... The leaves rustling in "Pan's Labyrinth" prior to the "shootout" is better than the shootout if you ask me....

I love all movies with phone ringing in the background. I play it loud and every time my wife jumps and goes to answer the phone and then she gives me a dirty look.

I agree, which is why I used an "ambience" example instead of loud "in your face" tracks (which I still very much enjoy).

Speaking of which...Abyss comes to mind. (not a sub movie at all but it just reminded me.)

That would be awesome in Blu.

Honorable mentions here that no one said..

-intro to Underworld
-ending in Irobot
-After the opera scene in Fifth Element
-a few good scenes in Mr. & Mrs. Smith
-basically all of Shoot 'Em Up (even though its a crap movie, Martin must have been drunk when it gave it 5 stars)
-Death Race (car sounds, gun fire, and explosions what more could you want)

Yea, the intro to Underworld sounds really good. You can hear each of the shells hitting the ground.

That is the whole point of marriage. There is no love without irritating your spouse every once in a while.

Actually, she is sleeping most of the time during a movie and that is a good way to wake her up.
