I still read about that happening all the time in the iTunes forum. I’m glad it no longer affects me at all because I hated it.
Home alone went though this recently. I believe it still applies to the Goonies. As long as someone suggests a guess as to when it will re upgrade, people are fine with it now. Home alone came back much earlier than the guess and I think the current guess for the Goonies is September. Between that and keeping track of which movies are moving from one steaming service to another it’s all too much to keep track of in my opinion but I suppose it’s fun for some people. Facts and figures, you can't produce a list, you know it and I know it.
Here is one for you, attach rate. Want to wager who does best in this category, disc or EST. Last edited by Wendell R. Breland; 08-20-2020 at 09:51 PM. |

And yes, they can do whatever they want with their content. But if I buy a particular version of a movie I expect to be able to retain the version I bought. No alterations, no changes. Just the product I spent my money for. With EST that is not a guarantee. They can change what you spent your money on whenever they want. I'm glad you enjoy bowing at the feet of your corporate overlords and giving them full control over what you watch. Me, I'm smart enough to make that decision on my own thank you. ![]() |

"What has changed is the mechanics of removal. In predigital days, taking an episode out of circulation meant cutting it from the syndicated rerun schedule and, behind the scenes, removing the physical tape masters and “servicing files” from their designated inventories and labeling them “out of service.” "Nowadays, with most shows entirely shot and stored digitally, pulling one of them “is just to take the digital file down,” Simon said. An episode — or potentially an entire series — can be ordered down, fully removed from streaming and access-restricted in less than 24 hours." https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/17/a...set%20managers A movie on a disc that I own can not be changed by anyone ever. Anything on a remote server can be changed, or removed, at will by the owner of the content on that server. This is not a hard distinction to grasp. Just because you have not lost anything, yet, in whole or in part, does not change the fact that it can happen. It has already happened to other people. With your digital collection, you own nothing. Everything that you bought is on someone else's server and you have zero control as to what happens with that content. The terms of service governing your digital purchases makes it quite plain that you have no rights, or recourse even, should content be edited or even outright removed. Of course, you would not care even if it did happen to you. Cheap and convenient is all that matters with you. Artistic integrity of content is optional so long as you get a bargain. ![]() Last edited by Vilya; 08-21-2020 at 04:46 AM. |

Home Alone to my knowledge was always 4K and recently got upgraded with DV. These instances are rare. I have never noticed this happen to any movies in my iTunes collection, only the occasional upgrades. |

Upgrades are fun, but, in general, I think that I like adding altogether new titles to my collection a bit more. I sometimes feel like I am on a hamster wheel buying the same movie over and over. ![]() |

That one is clueless how disc and servers work. That post is living proof.
It is true that content providers may alter subsequent releases on disc or IPTV. The title Payback comes to mind, I had the DVD but sold it before receiving the BD. The BD version that I received had the color timing and the last chapter completely changed. I was so POed I sold the BD. Taught me a lesson, never get rid of a disc till you are satisfied with the subsequent version. I got rid of all my LaserDisc because I ASSumed all the titles would be released on DVD. Was not to be, but at least I now have The Keep on DVD and in OAR rather than P&S I had on LaserDisc ![]() When I move on ALL of my physical media (CD, DVD, BD, UHD BD and D-Theater) can be distributed to family, friends and charity. All my IPTV content will become worthless unless I share info that I am not inclined to do. |

Just several months ago I just got rid of about 800 of my DVDs, those are the titles that I definitely will not watch ever again and/or which transfers are so bad it will give me headache watching in my home theatre. Sadly, however, at least 700 out of the 800 DVD titles are not available in streaming service if any kind (at least in Canada).

Some really good stuff like the excellent ‘Ghost Stories For Christmas‘ that we’re so creepy. I’m 99% Blu-ray/UHD but I haven’t given up on DVD, it’s a good source for older tv stuff that was shot on Video in the first place many times. I chucked all my Entertainment In Video DVDs as they were so badly authored that I could see dancing pixels every other frame. A constant fluctuating pattern. It was only ever those studio’s discs. I was delighted when I grabbed Halloween 2 on Blu-ray. The letterboxed DVD was dreadful. I’m sure it was shot on video. Absolutely dreadful, worse than the original video tape! How did they manage that? |
