Oh man. Now you are tempting me to double dip just like I did with Leon. Wondering if the encoding holds up without DV?

I didn't know enough when this come out to understand what was wrong with it, but I haven't been able to unsee the sharpening since then, and that sounds pretty damn good.

Absolutely nothing. Zip, zilch, nada, niente. On the UHD or the accompanying 1080p. So hold onto your old discs.

Yup. I can't see how it could possibly be the same master. That would just fry my brain if that turned out to be the case.

Keep me posted about that would ya. I find that disc borderline unwatchable in it's current lego brick form.

I already confirmed it being the exact same video encode back then - they only swapped the German audio track.

OK, that's disappointing. I don't have 4K and I'm happy with the old BD release, so I'm going to pass.

Sounds aces. Very glad I took the punt on the steelbook.

Really? Wow! That’s insane! I guess that makes me feel better that I didn’t really ‘waste’ money on those prior discs, but it makes the price I paid for this release seem like more a sucker punch.

there is a somewhat sharper, more grain, slightly more natural colors, more natural version of the Gaumont transfer released by a different label than the disc most people go on about

Did Studio Canal borrow Sony's Dolby Atmos remix for its release, do one themselves, or drop it altogether? I have the current Sony UHD and the Atmos ain't half bad, as they say. If this release doesn't have Atmos, I will probably pass.

Any difference or is it the same Sony remix?

It would be interesting to hear if SC took a stab at an Atmos mix themselves or just licensed the one already done.

Did they not do their own Atmos mix for The Gunman?

I remember there being a big song and dance from their end, but it ended up being at the expense of a hideously compressed disc, as they also bolted on a PCM 2.0 and DTS-HD-MA 5.1 track.

I'm not sure about The Gunman... never even heard of it. Will check the film out.

To be fair to the SC mouthpiece who said TFE was "the same master" they also said in the same message it looked different to the Sony one, so I don't know if some wires have gotten crossed somewhere, that it might be the same raw source scan as the Sony but SC's grading, processing etc is all their own. SC's Leon is clearly the same underlying 'transfer/master/whatever' as the Sony but it's got their own grading for sure. Just a thought.

You have made me very excite anyway, I hope mine turns up on Monday.

Anybody with an Atmos setup (not a soundbar) and the older Sony 4k disc care to do a comparison of the Atmos tracks on each version? At least in a few sample sections. Just curious as it whether it's a new (better) mix or not.

Gracias!
