Flash Gordon 4K UHD (1980)

Got to my copy last night and all I can say is WOW!! Man this looks fantastic. It looks so good, the cheesy effects really look bad. At least when it was presented on a shitty format, the effects were hidden, but nothing can hide in this release. Pitch Black looked good, but if this is what Arrow is going to present on 4K forward, we are in for some treats. The LE set is typical Arrow quality. The usual pampering from one of the best labels around.

I got lucky with Best Buy online and they had 2 in my local store. I ordered it 2 days ago and finally had a chance to swing by and pick it up today.

I watched the first 30 mins or so tonight and I'm really impressed with this transfer. The colors really pop as well. Great job by Arrow on this release!

Was really happy to see this back in stock at Best Buy. After DiabolikDVD messed up my order I gave in and ordered from Amazon and felt terrible about it. Luckily they hadn't shipped it yet so I was able to cancel and order from BB. Really looking forward to watching this one.

Just watched this and it was glorious. The movie is magic - even better than I remembered - and the Arrow presentation is, of course, magnificent. One of my favorite 4K releases to date, and I‘ve barely even begun digging into all the features.

Watched half hour of the disc this morning. It looks spectacular. When everybody gathers for Ming’s first arrival, the sight of all those great costumes, colours etc, blew my mind.

Played the Arrow 4k yesterday on my Sony X700 and sure enough, 3/4 of the way through, the player choked for a couple seconds and I thought for sure it would lock up, but it corrected itself. It did the same thing last weekend on Alien - I had to stop Alien and restart it where I left off. I truly hate my x700 player.

I played the scene over again after the movie ended and it was fine, so it's not the disc, just a random player freeze. The disc is flawless, no scuffs or scratches.

Gorgeous presentation. Just stunning. And the 2.0 track was awesome. But these constant freezes are starting to really kill my enthusiasm for the format.

Is there a problem with the dialog on both the stereo and surround tracks?

I don't notice any other sound problems but the voices seem to have some sort of reverb to them, i.e. Flash Gordon at at 59:01 when he tells Barin "You know it yourself" it has a sort of robotic reverb effect like how Klytus sounds. I don't notice it all the time, but I certainly notice it at several points in the movie like this one.

I also have the regular US BD from years ago with a 5.1 DTS MA track and this one does not have the same issue. The voices sound clear and normal.

Anyone else notice this?

I see you’ve watched the Spare Change review? Mentioned how the dialogue is mostly in the front speakers.

I love the restoration in every way, but one... Arboria seems more brown than green now. I usually don't notice many changes when restorations are done, but this one really sticks out and I'm surprised no one has mentioned it.

I'm not going to be that guy who says he saw it in the theater and swears by my 8 year old eyes, but the more earthy tones feel wrong to the more comic book green of previous transfers.

What a riot. I didn't remember this one at all from my childhood, but I took a chance on a pre-order. This movie is bonkers, but in a good way. To top it off, the soundtrack is top notch. If highly recommend this one too anyone looking for that nostalgic feeling

Yeah those colors were beautiful, with incredibly bright golds

There are obvious benefits to the 4K, but I do miss the comic book feel of the green.
