Default Back to the insiders

Paid,Talk,Penton,
I lurk here and finally joined. I was wondering how the hell you even deal with the HD-DVD insiders on AVS? I have taken the time to the whole insider's thread there and can not understand how the abuse they put out is allowed? If I did the same things I would be banned. I wanted to thank you for taking the high road and giving information and not the spin.
Thanks you all,
Michael

I second that. Thanks to all the insiders for keeping this thread so interesting. Thanks for all your time - especially paidgeek and Penton-man.

I'll third that sentiment to paid and penton. I've been an AVS member since 1999, and I'm apalled at the nonsense that Amir and his ilk are allowed to get away with over there. I remember when the first thread about HD discs started more than three years ago by Palladin, and when Amir joined he quickly became a frothing attack dog. The lies and bullshit he spewed were astounding. He spent weeks hounding Talkstr8 ("Hey Bill. When are you going to come clean that you work for Sun, Bill?") after Talk's repeated denials that he was who Amir claimed he was. The A-man simply would not let that go. Anyone who bothered Amir that much over there would be banned.

It's sad. I still like the other forums there, but the HD section is so pro-HD DVd it's nauseating.

Hot damn, I leave for a little while and all hell breaks loose.

Guys, I meant what I said back there about Wal*Mart, i.e. to ask talk or beats, I don’t know anything about that stuff. We all do know for sure though, that kjack is working the Chinese player route, so wait for his thoughts.

I find that behavior particularly despicable and for it be go allowed unchecked is even worse in my opinion....not to mention the potential legal jeopardy of the sponsoring entity.

The primary and most important reason why alot of these guys desire anonymity is because there are nut cases out there.

I mean you see how rowdy and irrational people get on some forums about the format war. Do you really think that it is completely impossible for some nut job that abhors Blu-ray and lives down the street let’s say from paidgeek or talkstr8t and spends 24/7 on internet forums getting all riled up for months, not to take a shot at these guys or one of their family members (if they knew who they were) during a state of insanity or while on drugs, medication, etc.?

And the same applies for Amir or Ben W. in regards to a mentally ill Blu-ray fan living in their neighborhood.

My God, people take a shot at you on a California freeway in a momentary fit of road rage if you cut them off and they don’t even know the other person driving, or what he believes in.

I’ve seen people get in fistfights over a damn parking space.

I'm sure others will say this, but it'd be an instant sale among some folks. I doubt it'd be a power seller, but it'd be an example of what you can do with SD material that has a number of episodes to deal with.

I love Seinfeld but I only remembered to get the first three or four seasons. I never went back since DVD fell off my radar awhile ago. Hence something like this would be at the top of my list.

Thanks to all for the positive comments...

The truth is that while I don't agree with Amir's tactics, he is doing a good job for his side. When you consider that he argues well for a format that has significantly inferior specs, and in doing so has developed a loyal following, you just have to give credit.

There is a lesson here in why technically superior products do not automatically win the market. It takes marketing, messaging and for something substantial, a lot of money.

Here's to all the BD supporting companies sharpening their swords over the weekend

In general, how would tape era television work with HD?

They can go back to the film for the really old stuff, but TV starting in the 70s until 2002 or so are on standard definition tape, aren't they?

True, however, you, Talk and PM are doing just as well, arguably better given the market share numbers but do not have to resort to "tactics"...

Thanks for fighting for us.

For me, looking as good as the original broadcast would be good enough as true hi-def can't be expected.

I think this is a chance to really show how many episodes you can pack onto each disc and really show another advantage that BD has over the lesser formats

So they had to go back to the original film elements, re-scan them in HD, and then re-edit every episode from scratch. It is supposed to be airing in HD in syndication right now.
Wow widescreen or 4:3?
