Default HD DVD isn't good enough to replace DVDs

If HD-DVD were to win the so called "format war" then it won't replace d.v.d.s as the next format. In my opinion it just isn't good enough. It will just be some passe b.s. That's how significant I view Blu-Ray as I have never understood why this war is happening since day one. I had been following the developement of Blu-Ray for a number of years and then out of nowhere there was this new format called HD-DVD to be released at the same time and for some God-aweful reason the media, public, and retail welcomed it with open arms as if knowing how well they would and could take advantage of the public. I think this has been a scam since day one with everyone knowing Blu-Ray is the true next format. What do you all think?

I think HD-DVD is much better than DVD and IF we were unfortunate enough to have it somehow get all studio support, I'd shift. I also think that Blu-ray is better than HD-DVD because it has the capacity in many ways to expand with the future without changes to the players.

My worry is that the studios will go 50/50 and we'll get stuck with SACD vs DVD-A. *sigh*

Which version are you using? I am thinking about upgrading. I have been using '06 but some of the new features of '08 seem to good to pass up. Maybe I can get my company to pay for it. BTW great widget.

I'm using '06. I almost got '08 at the Tulsa Apple store on Sunday, but education discounts only work online. Numbers looks pretty sexy.

Thanks!!!! I worked hard on it.

Default Hey guys... check this out.

So im looking in the insider thread and trying (like all of you) to put all this together. Mr. WB stepping down (rumor) Wal Mart at $199. Well it hit me, didnt WB just recently say something about the first to make it to 199? Now if indeed Sony is gonna hit the market with a 199 dollar player, and WB was hinting that if it happened they would go to Blu Ray, AND we figure in that MS has been throwing TONS of money at WB... well if WB accepted MS offer you would think their HD DVD guy wouldnt step down but would be happy. I am also thinking if WB accepted the bribe from MS it would be leaked by now. Does any of this make sense?

No, just saying possibly when WB said the quote (I cant remember it exactly, maybe I am way off) about getting to the 199 price point... possibly that was a lil hint. Then we get the big rumor of Wal Mart and $199 Blu Ray players.. THEN we get the word that WB HD DVD guy may be stepping down. Why would he step down unless he is pissed? I dont know jack, just putting it out there. Josh said the news of the guy stepping down was "hot" I doubt it is all coincidence.

Then consider in Paramount took MS bribe.. Maybe Sony said to themselves "Hey we got $199 players coming, the best movies of the year and WB is hanging with us.. **** Paramount." Just talking out my ass here.

Sorry I am not making much sense. Trying to go off of memory alot and I dont spend too much time on the Blu Ray stuff. But I could SWEAR WB recently said something interesting about the first to get to $199. Is it coincidence that a short while after WB said that we get a rumor of $199 player, then WB HD DVD guy steps down. ALL this AFTER it has pretty much been confirmed that MS has been sending tons of money to WB. Looks like good news to me.

THE HINT FROM INSIDERS THREAD: "National Lampoon's Vacation is a great film. I watched it exclusively with around 20 friends. That must have saved us nearly $199.00 as compared to what it would have cost to have gone to the movies to see it."

National Lampoon Vacation = Wally World = Wal-mart
Watching it EXCLUSIVELY = 1 format chosen
Around 20 friends = approximately 20 titles to be announced along with National Lampoon Vacation
$199.00 = JUST THAT!!!

PRO HD-DVD Nickerson stepping down???

Very interesting... especially with my own personal experience with learning about Warners attitude towards each of the HD optical media formats. Remember this?

Did you see deep in the comments about the reference to "Wally World" and that 3 or 4 players coming there over the holidays with 1 being branded by Wally World?
