Sony Pictures is scheduled to re-release the Morgan Creek film Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist on Blu-ray on Oct 13, 2020.

Father Lankester Merrin, Stellan Skarsgard, is conducting an archeological dig in East Africa when he discovers remnants of a pagan church.

Hopefully this will be in the correct aspect ratio. That WB release was bullshit. If anything, I wish they'd take Harlin's film and open it up to 2.00:1 the way the vistavision looked.

Honestly, I think I preferred Harlin's version more, especially the third act changes.

I honestly don't mind either one of them, but to be fair, I also mix up which is Beginning and which is Dominion. I may have to rewatch them in October.

The Beginning was released solo but is out of print. However if you goto Hamilton Books.com it can be had for $6 brand new.....

Interesting. I agree with much of what you say around here and I kinda thought the last act was what was wrong with it. Maybe I'll give it another go. I think I was pretty forgiving of the unfinished state of Dominion when I saw it and thought the movie fell in line with the talky/intellectual elements of Blatty's writing in the original and the 3rd one, so I kinda liked the quiet/subtle approach. but it's been a while since I saw it...

It's a different disc since Sony is releasing this instead of Warner.

Shooting his films past that point in his own funky system was bad enough (though that aspect ratio has now been adopted by most streaming shows, post-House of Cards, and even some features have been shot in it)

However, his even WORSE choice was cropping the sides off his old films, like The Last Emperor, to fit his new aspect ratio, and then lying and saying he intended to shoot them that way all along. At least the most recent releases of The Last Emperor and Apocalypse Now have gone back to the OAR, despite his crazy wishes.

Yeah man. I owned Apocalypse Now on DVD and I hated that. Storaro has worked on some legendary pictures. I'm glad new releases are staying away from doing that.

It was even worse when the cropped version was the only version available for viewing.
