Default No HD format war in Mexico

Hello.

I live in Mexico, and I've been following the Blu-ray vs HD-DVD format war since early 2006.
I can assure you that Blu-ray has already won because in many countries, like Mexico, there still is no HD-DVD player or movie to be found, and I'm sure it'll never be. I think this is the case for all Latin America and many other countries.
There was no format war to begin with, so HD-DVD is already in its way to desapear.
I know the US is the biggest market, and most probably today sales of HD-DVD in the US are bigger that all Blu-ray sales in all Latin America, but I think eventually Blu-ray will grow to DVD proportions, since it is the only format here.

that is good to know. I am glad Blu-Ray has secured the intl. market. It makes me glad to know people outside the US support it and that blu-ray is king!

See I think thats where Microsoft messed up, they jumped the gun and rushed the xbox 360 out 2 xmas ago without a high def player intact and now most people with an xbox 360, probably have invested in a ps3 the following year with a blu-ray player intact , hence eliminating the need for that 200.00 add on. I know alot of people that have both systems yet are adapting to the blu-ray high def rather than getting the hd addon.
Just makes me wonder why Microsoft hasnt integrated a HD DVD player into the 360 yet? or maybe they cant with all the heat related problems that its having already.
Long live the PS3!!!!!!!

Two questions... I assume the stats reported for sales are mainly for North America? Because they always talk about 1.5 million PS3s and I was under the impression over 4 million had sold worldwide.

Second.. how hard would it be to find out how the battle goes in many different countries? I know I've read lately about it being heavily towards BD in Australia..

Great to hear about Mexico btw.

You are right about the PS3 numbers but it is around 1.87M units so far. There is a great site for keeping track of it and game sales too, it is http://www.vgchartz.com/ you will have to register but it is free.

Viva Mexico!! I know M$ is hated in South America too. They do not trust the corp.

I want to get Volver. I don't think I can name a spanish speaking film on HD-DVD. Blu-Ray is leading in every country in sales including the US. I can't think of any countries where HD-DVD is winning, can anyone?

And Universal has been leaving Spanish language and/or subtitle tracks off their releases for a while. Many early ones had Spanish, but recently I think that even when the DVD version has Spanish subtitles, they leave them off the HD DVD version. I don't think we ever got an explanation. Amir confirmed that they were doing that, but didn't give a reason, IIRC.

Just a wild guess but maybe they ran out of room, 30G is not that much you need around 50. Sorry, I could not help myself.
