All six episodes are going to be Lauren Cohan monologuing alone in a tool shed unable to escape because she's surrounded by zombies. The final shot is the door being opened from the outside, cliffhanger: who could it be?! Find out in Season 11. She's filming them on her webcam now, and the CGI guys are gonna make her apartment look like a spooky old shed with zombie fingers coming through the cracks.

However, with social distancing and careful planning, they can film 6 episodes. Episodes usually take about 8 or 9 days to film and I think it's highly likely that each of these 6 episodes will take much longer than that given social distancing. So this is an opportunity to film and air a bunch of episodes while they wait until there's a vaccine for the virus so that they can proceed with their normal filming schedule of 16 episodes. In my opinion, if the virus is still a threat throughout all of 2021, they'll likely film another smaller batch of episodes instead of the usual 16.
The Official TWD Twitter has already confirmed that those six episodes are not an extension of Season 10 nor are they episodes from Season 11. They are simply extras.

Likely a ‘bridge’ of sorts exploring what happens between the seasons. Nothing more and nothing less.

Finished season 9 today. Bought the season pass for 10 on Amazon. Watched the first two of season 10. Angela Kang brought the show back with a vengeance. Significantly better than 7/8.

I struggle to believe that. It’s all quite odd.

I don’t find it odd. They’re simply a handful of episodes to hold fans over as there won’t be any Season 11 episodes until Fall 2021.

They could easily be six self contained episodes each telling their own story. When and how they’ll find the time to film these and broadcast them next year, I do not know.

Was flipping through the wasteland of TV channels and came across AMC running a Walking Dead marathon...I had stumbled across the very 1st episode in fact.

Usually they do this leading up to the season premiere...

When's the covid aborted finale supposed to air again??

So no jeopardy in any Carol or Daryl scenes for the rest of the show's run then.

Pretty huge news.

It's actually nice to know there is a endpoint for the main series now.

Indeed, but good to know many more stories will be told, plus the films. Monday night is TWD night to me and has been for a decade or so. I sure will miss the original series, for all its faults.

So much for that “it can go on forever” mentality they were throwing about.

With two spin offs and a movie series, I wonder if the threat of running it into the ground was lingering over the franchise.

Great news. The show has been going on for far too long. I hope they can get Andrew Lincoln back for the final few episodes. Screw the movies. Let his story end on the show that began his saga.
