I had a lot of great tapes, and later DVDs, from Anchor Bay in the late-90s/early-00s. Their "Book of the Dead" edition was one of the coolest special editions I ever bought. (I only had the first and never know they'd done one for [b]EDII[/b) until sometime later.) Sadly, as others mentioned, the latex began to dry up and flake apart over the years. I eventually had to get rid of it and put the the disc in a double case with Part 2. I still have that disc because it's the only place to find Bruce Campbell's documentary short FANalysis, and I kept the booklet, too, which I carefully cut out of the crumbling case before tossing it.

Still have both of my books in great shape only because I keep them in a ziploc bag. Sadly though the Evil dead 2 book no longer screams when you press the eyeball

I have a friend who bought those when they were first released, and his are still like new. I missed them when they first came out and when I saw his I really wanted them, especially as I am a Bruce Campbell completist and really wanted FANalysis, but they tend to be pretty pricey on the secondary market. But last year I found them in excellent shape at a used CD/vinyl/DVD store, and they were only $10 each. If they crumble over time, so be it, but they seem fine now. And i didn't spend too much on them.

The Book of the Dead edition was supposed to include the short film Within the Woods but they had to pull it off the release. Dang short still hasn't been released officially.
I always wanted those editions but seeing how they crumble over time kept me from ever buying them. I'd like to grab that prop replica by Trick or Treat Studios someday though.

I seem to recall that the FANalysis was actually on the first pressing of the standard Evil Dead DVD that was released at the same time as the Book of the Dead edition but it was not on the menu and it could only be accessed by remote using the title selection. Anyone else remember this?

I never bothered with the Evil Dead II Book of the Dead edition because the transfer was DNR disaster.

See...! Thanks, almost tossed it but now I know to keep the disc for that extra! I too was trying to figure out how to handle the inside book.

Mine crumbled and the disc got scratched from the plastic sleeve. I also still have the ED2 tin. But never got the book version of 2.

Feel bad for anyone who's book has fallen apart. I had Bruce sign mine during his 'make love' promo tour.

Anxiously awaiting this sale myself. Hopefully it will be 'good'..as good as a Shout sale can be lol.

If I recall, the sale usually runs for a week in the middle part of October.

Has it been confirmed that they're doing one this year? They skipped out on their annual summer sale this year, so i'm wondering...

Default Evil Dead BOTD

I bought this when it was originally released (big Anchor Bay fan from back in the day for sure) and I guess I haven't exactly stored it as carefully as I should have. The damage to the front is clearly visible (as is some of the foam underneath) and there are also cracks and discolouration on the spine, but the back is still in surprisingly good shape. Little bits and pieces fall off every time I touch it, so I almost never touch it. I keep the disc in a separate case.

I never bought the ED II book but I do have the limited tin.

Anyway since this is a Scream Factory thread I'll just add that I just picked up The Vagrant which I saw so long ago (on VHS) that I have no memory of it other than I seem to recall I liked it so I hope I'm right -- looking forward to watching it again and also digging into the Creepshow CE which also just showed up the other day

Amazed to hear that some still have their "Book of the Dead" DVD or have found ones still in good shape. Mine only lasted maybe 2-3 years or so before it started drying out.

I wonder if it has to do with the climate where we live?
