HMR is Home Media Magazine. They'll publish the latest Nielson numbers in their latest issue which should be posted sometime today.

Just watch this thread - as soon as it's up, someone will post the results for us!

I think that such an attitude on the part of existing PS3 and especially BD standalone owners would be a mistake. They have already sunk their dough into the player. The discs are the best quality available and will not wear out. So the only other reason to hesitate would be future hardware support -- will they be able to continue playing those discs? OK then. Given Sony support for the PS3 for the next, what, eight years or so, and (it's fairly safe to assume) in the PS4 after that ... well you will be able to get a very good quality, brand new BD player very easily at retail in say 2015 or 2020. The PS brand almost guarantees future support for these movies. Moreover, many existing PS3 owners will be buying a PS4 _anyway_. So why be antsy about the discs? You've already settled on the player. Go ahead, buy the movies and enjoy em on top-notch hardware for couple decades at least. At that point the then-old PS3 will even be a _cheap_ replacement if your existing player wears out.

Observation: there is nothing corresponding to be said for HD-DVD. After they lose it will become increasingly difficult to find decent players, especially in ten years or so.

They went for short term money instead of long term.

That is impressive.

I’m happy to see those few exclusive had an effect after all.

I still think the numbers will be down next week but hopefully not by much. Especially if Warner goes Blu-ray only. That would kill off any momentum that the Paramount announcement caused.

I know with next week now having Heros and Blades of Glory on HD DVD exclusively, I will be stocking up on BD backtitles.

Early AND with the Nickerson story (right from The Hollywood Reporter). Impressive.

Two in the top 10 for HD DVD (300 and Planet Earth) so once again showing no legs at all for new releases.

Hott Fuzz dropped to 23.81 of their 300 which was only 45.18 of Blu-ray's.

Interesting that other than 300, HD-DVD's best movie wasn't even in the top 10. Planet Earth was #9 and all the rest of the top 10 are Blu. 300 did gain some on HD-DVD this week though - only outsold 2.2:1 instead of the 2.5:1 the week before.

The common title Disturbia was more than 2:1 for Blu.

Nothing has really changed with these numbers.

Wild Hogs outsold the top HD-DVD movie other than 300 (Hot Fuzz) by over a 7:1 margin and also outsold 300 by 1.7:1.

Certainly good looking numbers for the Blu side.

So other than the week Transformers comes out things may not change much IMO.

I just saw the 300 BD is #1 again. If that doesn't show the continued sales of Blu Ray after a movies release, I don't know what would.
