It's not HMV exclusive. HMV is selling an exclusive variant of the Limited Edition which replaces the booklet with a poster.

Anime-on-line listings:
- Limited Edition
- Standard Edition

So I can save myself a tenner by swapping out the booklet for a poster? That's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

So there’s 3 versions. Still, very cool, may have to grab this. Be great if they could port across some other Discotek titles too, like Fist of the North Star.

I would love it if they released some of the Discotek Lupin III or City Hunter stuff!

I’d be willing to bet that there is enough of an appetite in the UK market for loads of older titles.

When will the standard version be out? There is no listing of a Manga release on Amazon, yet.

Wicked City was one of the first anime I saw, way back when on a Manga UK VHS tape. Ordered this right away. Went for the HMV variant as it's cheaper and the 'booklet' in the limited edition looks pretty small to be honest.

I should have known this would come out after I sponged out far too much for the recent US DVD edition. Great news though and I haven't upgraded Demon City since a really old US DVD.

Does this feature both of the English dubs like the US edition? I actually think the best way to watch the film is with the US dub but it would be nice to have the UK equivalent as well.

Edit: Indeed it does according to a press release. No reason why it wouldn't have, but good to know.

Since there are some folks confused or wanting more clarity on this UK release I can help fill the gaps as I've known about this for a few months now.
  • Wicked City is uncut. No BBFC interference this time. 18 rating came down to pretty much sexual violence and strong sex.
  • UPDATE October 2020: Both Blu-ray discs are authored by Manga Entertainment, but I expect them to use the Discotek Media work to some extent so the dubs and most of the extras should carry over into the UK release. I know I said it would be the Discotek discs but unfortunately I was misinformed so apologises about that (granted I had known about this release months in advance so changes can occur at the last second).
  • The standard edition Blu-ray is 2 Discs, not 1 as per advertised.
  • The limited edition Blu-ray, standard edition Blu-ray and DVD will be available across all retailers. HMV was the first to reveal it because they have an exclusive variation of the limited edition Blu-ray which has a poster instead of a booklet (though it'll be £29.99 SRP instead of the regular limited edition Blu-ray £39.99 SRP).

WICKED CITY is actually the last movies that I still only own a VHS copied from a rented tape back in the 90s (when I was a young adult I raided the video store every weekend, rented tons of stuff and copied every tape without copy protection for my private collection, which was legal in Germany back then). I never bought any DVD of it because they either had English audio only or were super expensive. But now, finally, the time has come to throw out that old tape.

Would the BBFC still have a problem with the Urotskidoji films?

Considering it's a Hentai so yes. In today's standards it might get cut less but I haven't seen it so I can't say.

Maybe the first two better ones would get through unscathed nowadays, who knows. But that fourth one has kids involved...
I still have the first two uncut on DVD from the US, and last time I looked they were worth 100s of $

I only have the movie version released by Media Blasters about a decade ago.

Mine's the Perfect Collection with the original uncut episode structure. I remember it wasn't sold online hardly anywhere, could only find it at one place that shipped to the UK.

Yeah, I couldn't find it at all for a sensible price.
