It’s worth $19.99. What does a slip cover has to do with the Price? So movies should be cheaper if they don’t come with a useless cardboard cover?

No slip, and... no digital, and... no Blu-ray... I was told,it does come with a small booklet. The lack of those traditional items, seems like the price would be reduced. I’m sure it’s due to it being a ‘boutique’ label, but still.

Do you recall the multiple scenes in which they were attacking one another? It would seem that they are the dominant species in at least this section of the planet (not surprising given the harsh conditions) and that a lack of any other prey is is causing them to turn upon one another in an effort to survive.

I agree that a blu ray version should always be included... but the rest of it doesn't matter if you get a quality 4k disc for $19.99.....

I can understand wanting both in the package, especially since it's a bridge for those who haven't upgraded to 4k yet, but by the same token, I don't see people complaining that they don't include a DVD with their Blu-ray releases.

They probably would have jacked the price up if they included the Blu-ray. And it would have properly resulted in less sales and those of us who are holding for the sequels to get the 4K treatment it would guarantee that they wouldn’t if Pitch Black didn’t sell well. I have yet to own an Arrow release that’s included the Blu-ray.

Don't kill the messenger. I don't care about having 1080p BDs paired with 4K discs unless they feature unique bonus features. Just explaining why Batman90's statement that anyone who cares probably already has PITCH BLACK's Blu missed the point. The Blu most fans have has now been rendered garbage by the new Blu.

As much as I eulogised about the tat-led model of fleecing us diehard physical media consumers (of which I am a willing participant, albeit not as willing as others to buy just any old tat) in another thread, there is no argument whatsoever that the presentation of the film itself is exemplary on Arrow's UHD.

It's got a fabulous new 4K transfer with a terrific HDR pass that truly serves the stated intent of the visuals (approved as it was by the director, for what that's worth), both cuts of the film and a horde of bonus content that includes damned near everything from the previous releases (including the best rendition of Dark Fury by far) plus lots of new interviews and stuff. No audio 'upgrade' to immersive, just OG 5.1, but you won't find me crying about that.

Wrap all that up in a flawless FiM encode and it's just a stunning release, I did a lot of moaning about not getting a BD or slipcover with it but at the end of the day the film's the thing - and Arrow smashed it outta the park.

I like to keep a blu ray copy as well. I usually switch all movies I buy (blu ray and 4k) to double cases which can store both versions...

on the blu ray versions I may keep my old dvd or a prior blu ray release.....

Which is a miracle in itself. The only advantage I've seen with having a standard Blu-ray included with a UHD is for all of the extras that the label was too lazy to include on the UHD. With Pitch Black, everything is on the UHD, so the BD has no purpose (other than for those who don't have a 4K player yet, but that's why I said "the only advantage I've seen...").

well there's this. Odds are that most collector's have more than one source to play blu rays in their home... but not 4k.

If something goes on the fritz, I still have back up players to play blu ray versions...

Yeah, but then not every movie can be afforded the business end of a UHD100 disc with no foreign language tracks at all, hence the main movie encode on PB (and Flash Gordon, for that matter) having an insanely high average bitrate and still being able to leave a few GBs free for all the extras new and old. That's why Lionsgate have routinely put the extras onto their UHDs for years now (despite including the BD anyway) because they too aren't aiming for a 'one size' disc encode that covers a zillion and one markets, they have North American distribution for their movies and that's about it. (They just duplicate the US disc for the UK market if they have the rights there too.)

But most of the majors practice the 'one size' model with a vengeance to reduce costs, so they cram loads of extra languages on there like their life depends on it and I'd rather not have them attempt to stuff the extras on there as well. Universal are the big exception amongst the majors as they include the extras on their UHDs nowadays as well as several language tracks but still leave the movie enough room to breathe (mostly) because they don't often do one single disc for the world, they do different encodes with alternative language arrangements for different markets. So that's why most still include the BD just so's the extras can tag along, and I appreciate that as well as having the previous version for comparison's sake, but that's purely down to me being a massive nerd.

Hey man, it's a new UHD Blu-ray release and VD is the main attraction! As long as it's better than the Blu-ray, it's worth it.

If no one buys it (regardless of price) the new format won't be supported and then you won't get VD.

I have a UHD Blu-ray player that converts UHD Blu-rays to HD resolution.
