Looks like another awesome release.
![]() I love the Flipside series. Some of my favourite releases available on Blu-Ray. I'm still sad that I apparently missed out on The Orchard End Murder. The film is out of stock everywhere for quite a while now, so I assume it's OOP. Anyone knows if, by any chance, the BFI didn't say anything about a re-release or new pressing of this title? thanks ![]() |

![]() Sadly, HMV no longer ships outside of the UK, and last time I checked Zavvi didn't send packages to Portugal (but apparently, that has now changed, so I'll finally add it to my collection!). I kept checking Amazon, and BFI itself, and there this release is unavailable. Cheers ![]() |

I still occasionally daydream that Gerry O'Hara's The Brute (1977) will join the Flipside stories. Probably because a lady from the BFI introduced it at an all-dayer of banned/controversial films I attended at Riverside Studios near Chelsea around a decade ago.

Been looking forward to the release of Short Sharp Shocks since I first heard about it. If it sells well (which I certainly hope it does), hopefully the BFI consider doing further, similar titles.
For some time now, I've wondered why the BFI haven't done a release of Dark Towers (maybe their release of The Boy from Space didn't sell well, or there could be rights issues?). I don't know if it was shot on film, but I found out a few weeks ago about a ghost story anthology series called Shades of Darkness (it's had a physical media release outside the UK, but it didn't have all of the episodes). |

![]() ![]() https://www.bfi.org.uk/press-release...press-releases 4-disc Blu-ray released on 16 November 2020 as part of the Play for Today at 50 celebrations. Fifty years after its first transmission, the BBC’s Play for Today anthology series remains one of British television’s most influential achievements. Between 1970 and 1984, it brought the UK’s best writing, acting and directing talents into our living rooms, challenging audiences and pushing the boundaries of TV drama. Play for Today Volume 1, released by the BFI on 16 November, brings together seven iconic feature-length dramas from 1970-1977 on Blu-ray for the first time, in a collection that exemplifies the breadth and brilliance of this ground-breaking strand. The Lie Written by Ingmar Bergman | Directed by Alan Bridges | 1970 The great Ingmar Bergman’s first British teleplay foreshadows his better-known miniseries Scenes From a Marriage in its characteristic examination of a disintegrating relationship. Shakespeare or Bust Written by Peter Terson | Directed by Brian Parker | 1973 Brian Glover (Kes) features as Bard-loving miner Art, who, along with mates Ern and Abe, make a poignant, comedic canal-boat pilgrimage to Stratford-upon-Avon in a wistful waterways road movie. Back of Beyond Written by Julia Jones | Directed by Desmond Davis | 1974 Desmond Davis, whose career spanned Girl With Green Eyes to Clash of the Titans, directs This Sporting Life’s Rachel Roberts as reclusive widow Olwen, befriended by papergirl Rachel with momentous consequences. A Passage to England Written by Leon Griffiths | Directed by John Mackenzie | 1975 Uncle and cousin in tow, Anand needs to get to England from Amsterdam and Brit fisherman Onslow is his best hope. The Long Good Friday director John Mackenzie adds grit to the comedy, penned by Minder creator Leon Griffiths. Your Man From Six Counties Written by Colin Welland | Directed by Barry Davis | 1976 From the writer of Yanks and Chariots of Fire comes a tale of the Troubles as, after his father’s death, Belfast boy Jimmy heads for his uncle’s farm. But even in Ireland’s far west, his new start is under threat. Our Flesh and Blood Written by Mike Stott | Directed by Pedr James | 1977 Alison Steadman (Abigail’s Party) is set on a ‘natural’ birth while leading her husband (Bernard Hill, Boys From the Blackstuff) against an officious establishment in the satirical shape of Richard Briers’ (The Good Life) Mr Smythe. A Photograph Written by John Bowen | Directed by John Glenister | 1977 When an inexplicable photograph arrives in the post, Michael Otway’s world is turned upside down. John Stride (The Ice House) and Stephanie Turner (Juliet Bravo) star in what the Daily Mail called ‘grand guignol in the British manner’. Special features

![]() ![]() Blu-ray release on 19 October 2020 Starring newcomer Roxanne Scrimshaw (who had never acted before), and Nichola Burley (Dominic Savage’s Love and Hate, Andrea Arnold’s Wuthering Heights) in the titular roles, Lynn + Lucy, written and directed by British filmmaker Fyzal Boulifa, is a story of violence and hysteria at a societal level played out through the lives of two best friends, whose relationship is tested after a tragedy. After multiple award wins and a critically acclaimed release on BFI Player in July, Lynn + Lucy is released on Blu-ray by the BFI with fantastic extras including new interviews, casting and audition footage and Fyzal Boulifa’s Cannes prize-wining short film The Curse. Lynn and Lucy are life-long best friends, their relationship as intense as any romance. Neither has ventured far from where they grew up. Lynn, who married her first boyfriend and whose daughter is fast growing up, is delighted when the charismatic, volatile Lucy has her first baby boy. Lucy, however, does not react to motherhood as Lynn expects. Soon, they find their friendship tested in the most extreme circumstances. Special features

Does anyone know what Amazon are playing at with Tales From the Hood? Rather than being posted along with the rest of Monday’s releases it’s gone to currently unavailable!?
EDIT: Ah, I see by this thread the release date has slipped but Amazon haven’t updated by the look of it. |
