5-episodes in.
On social media, I've seen lots of fans of Hill House expressing disappointment in the new series. I don't think it's poorly made, or anything to such an extent that I would call it 'bad'; However, I think they made a mistake by kind of marketing this as a 'horror'-themed series following the success of Hill House--as well as the expectation that comes from adapting 'The Turn of the Screw'. It works well as a drama. It's well-written and directed, and carries a heavy heart -- but the horror undertones are extremely minor, and not particularly scary or frightening this time around. I'm still enjoying it overall, though. Enough to still want a third volume. |
