And yet, you are buying a 4K movie, but still they care about Blu-Ray bullcrap. If ALL the cuts aren't in 4K, then DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!!!!!!!! So sick of this. 4K, should mean 4K. I wont buy it then, just like T2, The Patriot, Suicide Squad, The Punisher, Underworld etc. No extended cuts in 4K? I don't buy. Period. Yet another film wasted on 4K with the garbage cuts.
I wish more folks were a bit more educated on this. Very often, extended cuts like this are NOT finished for a DCP they are 1080p only and there is zero point or liklihood they will get a 4K version. With the exception of something like A STAR IS BORN which was actually re-released in the Dolby and SHOULD have a proper 4K release, the majority of extended cuts will never see more than a Blu-ray. Think of it like the etended days of old on DVD that would have random VHS dailies inserted into them because that was the best thing available.

They probably could go back to the original elements, do a new scan, and recreate the whatever extended/unrated/uncorked/unleashed version. Or just fake it like the 2003 "Director's Cut" of Alien on the 4K, with the added footage being from a lower-quality source.

But... eh. Like I said earlier, most of these extended versions were just marketing B.S, mostly with footage that should have just been left in a deleted scenes bonus feature. That was certainly the case with The Town-- there's no way that cut scene with the same repeating dialog was approved by the director to be reinserted into the film... unless it was ghost-directed by George Lucas.

lol right I mean they COULD but like you said, it was really just a way to sell more copies. I feel like there are very few true director's cuts anymore that get released, they're just "extended" or "fiddled with" versions (and most directors will attests to that like Milos Forman did re AMADEUS before his passing, or Ridley has said multiple times about the revised cut of ALIEN - his cut IS the theatrical)

Definitely-- I remember owning the "Director's Cut" of Lethal Weapon (which was no such thing) on DVD. Later I read Shane Black blasting it in an interview, making fun of how it has three introduction scenes for Riggs establishing that he's a bit crazy and unhinged.

It's definitely a case-by-case basis though. Aside from true Director's Cuts, there is the occasional unrated or extended version that has merit-- perhaps restoring trims that had to be accommodated for a PG-13 rating, or trims dictated by the studio for a set runtime. But so many of them are just studios shoving deleted scenes back in without the input of any of the film's creators just to have "more," and sometimes less is more.

I like the sniper bit but it's totally unnecessary in the grand scheme of things.

I don’t like the extended because of the
[Show spoiler]relapse. It goes against his persona of having his shit together and planning these great heists.
Addicts can’t even hold their life together, never mind something intricate like that Fenway Robbery.

Btw, I am getting this. I watched the extended once and won’t again. I just want the better picture and sound.

I've read through this thread.

If I buy the 4K version of The Town, I get the theatrical cut on the 4K disc, while on the blu-ray disc I get the theatrical cut and the extended cut. I've got that right, haven't I?

I loved the LW extended cuts. The additional school scene was great and Shane Black has no credibility after his crappy treatment of predator.

As for this release, I'm sad about not getting the other cuts in 4k. It's really upsetting that many 4ks are skipping additional cuts. If this does get all of the cuts in 4k I'll get it.

Shane Black's "The Predator" was a pretty crappy film, that's for sure. I think he's right on that point, though, and it wasn't just his opinion, it was Richard Donner's film after all. I like the shooter scene, but I'd be fine watching it on it's own as a deleted alternate introduction for Riggs (which is what it actually is).

As for the 4K not getting the multiple cuts, it usually has to do with not wanting to spend the extra time and money getting the alternate footage up to snuff, especially for movies that come out the first year or two on a new format. The same thing actually happened with Blu-Ray as well-- a lot of initial releases only had the one version, with the alternate cuts only on DVD (off the top of my head this included Independence Day, Live Free of Die Hard, Spider-Man 2, and The Punisher '04).

I just played this disc a few weeks ago (ub820+oled) with no complaints. Never bothered to check the bluray but apparently that's where the extended cut is. Mastered at 4000 nit, 1300ish maxcll and 180ish maxfall. It looks good for a movie that is meant to carry a dark and gritty style.

It's gorgeously film-like on UHD, it's so disappointing.

All reports are the UHD is a really really strong upgrade over previous BD. Had this in my library since early on collecting. Haven't watched it since late 2017 on Sony FALD LCD, so not a strong memory of my impression. Really need to throw it on soon for first time on the OLED. For sure.

p.s Extended cut doesn't add anything meaningful IIRC. I also could swore (though only viewed once) it went over a dialogue point twice because of the additions.

I only care for the theatrical. Extended is a good extra.
