Well, you could tell us if the Trek bluray boxset is gonna be a box with six individual cases or a foldout or with small cases.

Slimpack as far as I know, but no one has gotten them yet, soon

ST:TOS may be a foldout, but I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure by the pictures it's not a keepcase (do they even make them in 7pack yet?)

I checked, and there's nothing on that in the literature

Ok, Esox50, here's your DIY homebrew formula:

Buy, 1 copy each-

Company BD
Dragonheart BD
Enter the Dragon BD
The Brave One BD
The Company BD
The Matrix BD
The One BD
Enter the Matrix PS2 game

Now, add the The Brave One BD to the Dragonheart BD, the The Company BD and the Enter the Matrix PS2 game.

Next, subtract the Company BD, the Enter the Dragon BD, the The One BD and the The Matrix BD from the above sum. And...

Voila! One Braveheart BD!

Okay, I've done my stupid thing for the day.

Currently, December... theatrical editions only, likely movie only, and no idea re: packaging. Peter Jackson is saving the longer editions and all the bonus material... plus lots of NEW bonus material... for BD release when The Hobbit films are done.

Jeff,

I read Fox is going to release Prison Break season 4 and the Final Break tv movie on blu this summer. With the series over this season, what exactly is the hold up for season 2?

Yeah, I recently tried to watch DS9 from the beginning... but the first couple of seasons were too tough a slog for me. I liked the idea of Enterprise and I loved the last two seasons of it (sans the finale - Terra Prime was Enterprise its best), but I agree that Trek series have mostly been very uneven.

It's coming. Before the end of this year. So too are Gladiator: Extended and Forrest Gump. There's a lot of months to go yet in 2009...

This just makes no sense to me, whatsoever. I suppose an early leak might steal a bit of thunder from a press-release/marketing-campaign, thus making that effort a little less efficient/more expensive, but really... how can this factor impact the bottom line of these releases enough to entirely scupper them?!

Okay, I've done my stupid thing for the day.
Wouldnt it be easier to go buy three more copies of the DVD? That would gaurantee a Blu-ray announcement tomorrow.

I completely agree with you on the notion of it being irresponsible to leak things too early - but from the perspective of mutual respect between you and your source, and not raising people's anticipation levels over tentative plans.

My question is, how does just leaking a title result in that title being canceled? I figure if there was a problem with the title, it'd be canceled regardless of early news of it being leaked. And if there wasn't any problem with it, what does a little early anticipation hurt? Are the issues related to other studios knowing of the plans and upsetting some competitive balance?

If you put 6 copies of the DVD on your screen at once, you'll match the resolution of the imminent BD!

Bill or Jeff

Are you able to give any update of Warner's catalog plans for the rest of 2009, either here or in the Rumour Mill?

They seemed to have dried out recently and I would love to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Goonies, which have come out in the UK, and Gremlins.

And the same question for Universal...

Also is there any chance of a Speed Racer reissue with True HD?

Thanks in advance guys.

As an extreme example, look what WB did with the Matrix on HD DVD...they purposely tried to steal Disney's thunder on the Pirates of the Carribean Blu.

Studios are going to release their titles when they think they can get the most bang for the buck and attention. If you have another major release, there is competition for $$$.

Believe me, I know enough independent and in-house special edition producers to know what I'm talking about. You have to understand, these are TENTATIVE lists of planned titles. Most of the time, the features are still in production or haven't even been started yet. Sometimes, transfers haven't been done yet. Approvals haven't been given, licensing deals haven't been finalized. Often, the talent (actors, the director) hasn't yet been approached to do interviews or participate in commentaries. So what can happen when word that the titles are planned leaks many months too early, is that someone who owns a particular piece of footage might decide to jack of the price when the studio comes asking to use it. Or agents and managers can catch wind of the project and insert themselves into the negotiations to jack up their principal's participation fees. Which can sometimes mean that the actor or director decides NOT to participate, or is too expensive so the studio doesn't even bother with them. It's even happened a couple times that a director has read comments about a planned title online (one that wasn't even in production yet, and so the studio hadn't even approached the director about being involved yet) and they get offended. They think, "You mean, my movie is being released on DVD/Blu-ray and the studio hasn't even told me about it? F--k them!" So they get pissed and decide to call the studio to kabosh the project all together. Look, I'm OFTEN given the tentative release slates for the entire year for the different studios. And there's a reason I don't go in The Rumor Mill and post the entire thing. I trickle out title info carefully, usually not more than a few months prior to official announcements, and then only after I've confirmed with appropriate sources that work on the title is mostly completed. It's easy for a website editor or member to eagerly post complete lists of titles online to get attention or traffic or to be able say they did it first. Unfortunately, it's also WAY too easy to screw up the actual release plans (or to see the title in question become less than it might have been) in the process. I have personally seen it happen many times. Those who run DVD/Blu-ray sites, or participate in online forums, need to be more careful with what they post. There are unintended consequences. I would MUCH rather have a DVD or Blu-ray special edition be just that much more awesome when it's finally released, and maybe not be the first to post news about it for being careful, than post news too early and screw things up for everyone.

^ Yup.
Thank you Blu-news.

Just for clarification is Blu-news also "Spartan" something from HDD from back in the format war days or someone entirely different?
