Yeah it's connected to the internet. Spyro is a disc. The menus lag and freeze at various spots. It's gotten considerably worse today though. I was playing Horizon Zero Dawn and the audio/voices cut out, and then the system completely crashed. I just initialized the console which took two hours and it wasn't even on again for five minutes before it froze and crashed again. Now it's very slowly checking the system storage status. I'm thinking it has to be the hard drive at this point. Guess I'm going to have to get a new hard drive. Just can't believe how quickly this crapped out on me, especially since I've taken such good care of it but I guess these things happen especially with my luck lol.

Sounds really messed up. You can try a HDD replacement. You won’t lose money on it since you can use it on any PS4.

In your shoes, I would straight up trade it in for a new Slim console.

I ordered a 2TB HDD so hopefully that will work and double my storage space in the process. Worth a shot I guess.

PS4 Update 8.00 Patch Notes

• The following changes have been made to Party and Messages
• When starting a party, you can now choose to create a new group or select an existing group. When you create a new group, it’ll be saved even after the party has ended. You can start a new party with the same members by selecting the group that you previously created.
• You can now use your group across party and messages. you can send messages to a group you created for a party, or start a party with a group you’ve messaged with.
• Messages have been added to the screen during parties. When you select messages, you’ll see the messages exchanged between members of your group.
• The public/private settings for parties have been removed. Only members of the group can join the party.
• You can now change your party settings from the options menu that displays on the screen when you select party. You can also manage your party connection settings when you select [Party Voice Chat Cnnection], which has been added to the party settings.
• Members of your party can now see when your mic is muted.
• You can now join parties even if there are members that you’ve blocked. When you join a party with a blocked member, or when a blocked member joins the party, you’ll receive a notification. During the party, you won’t hear each other, and the game you’re playing, as well as your Share Play status, won’t be displayed. In addition, the blocked member won’t be notified that you’ve blocked them.
• Play Together sessions can no longer be started during a party. For online multiplayer games, you can start a game session within the game.
• The following changes have been made to parental controls.
• Communicating with other players and viewing content created by other players have been combined and are now communication and user-generated content. If you’ve selected “Not Allowed” for either of the settings, the same setting will transfer after the update.

Other updated features:

• Mute all microphones has been added to the quick menu under sound/devices. This setting mutes all microphones connected to your PS4.
• The following changes have been made for communities
• You can no longer create parties from the Community area. You’ll need to create a group in a party.
• You can no longer create a new even in Events – Events created before the update will still be held, and events and tournaments hosted by game developers will continue to take place.
• For some features, the content displayed on the screen has changed, as well as the screen design.

All of the latest "updates" (and I use the tern very loosely) have been jokes, not good ones either. It doesn't really seem to me that these updates serve great purpose, especially at this stage, when we're preparing to make the transition to the PS5.

I haven’t checked but I’m willing to bet the PS4 is still the only Blu Ray player in existence that can’t play cds.

Think Sony will ever admit that was a mistake ? Me neither.

Im nervous the PS5 wont play 3D blu-rays but we'll see.

Well it's not a disc player so I don't think it's something that should necessarily be expected. It's a game machine and they threw in a blu-ray player, for free basically. They were clear the focus was on games, as opposed to the PS3 which was marketed as an all-in-one entertainment machine.

Mine finally fixed itself.

That's not good it's glitching. They didn't test it fully.

But it's not worse than the PS3's "stuck at 99%" Sony required update (I needed to update it a year ago to play a blu ray 3D disc it the PS3 prompted to be updated for) and when I updated my PS3, it would not complete the update and was trapped in an endless loop whenever I turned on the PS3. It would try to update and kept getting stuck at 99%.

I looked it up on youtube and there was a tricky fix but if I reset the console 17 times or so (literally), it would finally catch one brief moment where you could stop the loop of the failed to update screen and actually finally update the console by using a USB stick at the right moment. Otherwise, my PS3 was completely ruined by the Sony update. Unbelievable that they let that happen by not checking that glitch.

Sony's solution? They wanted me to send it in for repairs due to a problem with their console update requirements for almost $100 minus shipping. Not cool.

Thankfully that solution worked but I'll not update the PS3 again after that.
