While I own the original Twilight Zone series on blu-ray, I'm not a fan. I respect the show for its clever writing and memorable story lines, but I'm of a generation where I feel I'm too old to appreciate it for its corny 60s episodic Norman Rockwell depictions. I saw the first 3 seasons and still need to watch the other two. The episodes they got to remaster in HD are beautiful though!
I also feel the same about the 80s version, which is just tacky and cheap. Again, an oddity of its time and has couple of standout story lines, as well as newer versions of the original series. Cut to 2019 and basically you get a 'woke' version of the show, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as some of the episodes were good (the one with the cop and the cam corder), but it felt too on the nose. And Peele isn't a great Rod Serling host; The 80s show did away with that. There was a 90s or 00s with Whitaker I believe which I never saw. Anyway, Twilight Zone is a bit like "The Exorcist". Every now and then people will try to recreate it, but with every new take, the more I believe it was a product (and perhaps work of art) of its time. Also, stop with these reboots, come up with something original. Peele should stop with the revival projects (Twilight Zone, Candyman) |
