The more and more these types of titles come to 4K, the more and more I'm tempted to sell off just about the entirety of my Criterion Collection. They don't want to hop on the 4K train? Well that's $ lost for them.

Melville preferred a cooler look. The US Criterion was wrong and way too warm, and even confirmed tobe wrong later by Lee Klein.

Seeing this message may mean that Studio Canal may be planning a 4K release here also. Worst case scenrario is that Criterion reacquires the rights and release a 4K mastered blu-ray (Since they have no plans of releasing anything on 4K UHD anytime soon).

Alternatively it could just be Amazon pre-order Tom foolery.
That's not what it means at all. International shipping on some items is still restricted by COVID.

You can still order some of these items that Amazon UK does not ship to the U.S. through Zavvi. However they’ve recently raised their set shipping by 6 pounds. I think this started with my Flash Gordon U.K. purchase.

Once you sign up, they'll give you an actual UK address you'll use when you order things online. It will be shipped to that address. Once they receive the package, they'll contact you as far as as fees (shipping, etc.) before they ship it your US address.

Awesome, thanks!

I gave some serious thought yesterday to passing on this as I only just upgraded my old Melville DVD set to the Blu-ray one but it's a Melville, on UHD, in native 4K... f**k it! Sold!

I hope so, as long as a new restoration is used because the existing restoration is... shit, simply put.
So bad that the older DVD-era master Criterion smartly used for their Blu-ray is leagues better. I may have read that the "new" restoration was done at 4K, but even if only the scan was, a new restoration using it would be superb, as it's just the awful filtering that ruined it.

It won't be. If there is to be another Melville film on 4K UHD in the future, the next is likely to be Army of Shadows - the other Melville film that was released as part of the digibook 'Studio Canal Collection'.

Le Samourai isn't owned by Canal but by Pathe (or Rene Chateau).

The one 4K transfer I wish that could get a Studio Canal do over is THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH.

I remember buying the Studio Canal blu and couldn't believe how blown out and awful that transfer looked!

It needs a re-do with David M. and a 4K release for sure.

I just wish Studio Canal would also try a title like THE TALES OF HOFFMANN on 4K because that film pops on the 4K transfer they released on BLU several years ago. Just would love to see that and Last Year at Marienbad get 4Ks

I was never expecting this to get a 4K Blu-ray release in the UK. I thought it was only gonna get one in France and Germany.

According to this Hiventy was responsible for this restoration, but who knows what they used for reference.

The French release is listed with 3 discs/with a 3rd bonus disc now: https://www.amazon.fr/Le-Cercle-Roug.../dp/B08FP3SQPV

Same here: https://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/f300647-ce...t=autocomplete

I'm pretty sure that it didn't say so when I pre-ordered with amazon.fr.

StudioCanal have made a habit out of putting the extras on a separate disc just to make the disc count more impressive, not surprised in the least if true here.

My point was that as of today it seems as if the UK and the German release might be lacking this (French?) bonus disc.

EDIT: Just checked zavvi and says 3 discs as well (now).

It was available on Monday at any rate and wasn't anymore already yesterday (or even before that). Just FYI, because I noticed. I noticed the 3 only today.
