Alliance, who is formerlly New Line's production partner in Canada released a 1080i version that appears to be from a TV master. They're responsible for their own releases, as is Entertainment in Video in the UK and the other companies that were partnered with New Line

Oh I got ya. I guess its better that they didnt use that version for the US. 1080i?? That sounds like a low res blu. Not worth it IMO.

And I'm so glad they no longer own the CSI rights anymore. Their CSI DVD releases looked badly compressed because of the French (and for no reason at all, English) 2.0 stereo tracks added, not to mention the horrible packaging.

So when that CSI Blu-ray comes out, I'm glad to know I can pick it up and it won't be screwed with.

It's the same resolution, just an interlaced transfer

Basically it just indicates that since New Line was no longer doing the heavy lifting, they used what they had lying around.

I have another quick question for either of you...

I've noticed a new trend with some of the more mainstream family films, where they include a DVD copy, such as Pinocchio, Bolt, Bedtime Stories, Marley & Me and the upcoming Inkheart. I realize as of right now it's to have an extra DVD copy for the kid's room, the car, etc. Do you think this practice will remain exclusive to the more popular family films, or do you think we could start to see this branch out to other genres, as well?

Family films yes (though how Spaceballs is family....). You're exactly right that hey're trying to address the whole "need to play it on the dvd player in the car/kids room" thing. The idea is to wean people off of DVD.

Personally I wouldn't have minded if they had pulled Fracture from the schedule and given its slot to Se7en.

And while they're at it, they could have drop-kicked Dumb and Dumber and put in Magnolia and/or Boogie Nights.

Whats the deal with New Line and its 1080i masters, Se7en, The Crow (released by EiV in UK) + some others, why are these people releasing 1080i movies on BD?

And Jeff or Bill, any news on a possible BD of Far & Away after its horrible DVD editions?

that film would look beautiful on BD, Salomon's work was criminally underrated, Oscar worthy imo.

thanks.

Apologies if I've asked this one before, but...

Any rumblings from MGM on Mad Max? My Mad Max 2 BD is getting lonely.

Whoever asked about TOS packaging, it's a flippy tray keepcase

Crow is not New Line, same deal as with Alliance, EiV is doing their own work, and are responsible for their own discs. There was cross-arrangements when NL was independant, but they no longer have access to the masters, so they're doing their own

The first season of CSI is encoded as 1080i in the US. They tried really hard to get it converted back to 24p, but no luck. There were too many bad edits and none of the big boys (Teranex, S&W, etc...) could correct them.

It'll look fine, depending on how well your tv/player handles de-interlacing. I doubt there will be a lot of problems

Not sure if you're aware of this, or if the information is incorrect, but Amazon pre-orders list MGM including a DVD with upcoming Blu-ray releases of:

"To Live And Die In L.A."
"Rollerball" (2002)
"Navy Seals"
"Dark Blue"
"Walking Tall" (2004)
"Out Of Time"
"The Graduate"

Some of these MAKE "Spaceballs" seem family...

~Alan<~~~~~Who is amazed at some of the MSRPs associated with these titles....

Yeah, I was aware, they're the only ones doing it for non-family stuff tho

I don't think it'll be a long-lived trend

Not an issue for me, but would this be a problem for (possible) future season releases, or is it just an issue with the FIRST season and none of the following seasons?
