I can't say I see that phenom on TLJ as presented on disc, it's got grain and plenty of it

Since the rest of the Star Wars (and Marvel) movies look the same on UHD, and Knives Out looks very different, I think we can assume that the de-graining was done by Disney.

That's good to know about the UHD. I haven't seen that, I only saw it in the theaters in Dolby.

Knives Out was a digital shoot though although according to this article there was a single shot in 35mm. Regardless, the UHD looked phenomenal. It's easily one of the best on the format IMHO.

It's a digital shoot but there's still a pretty thick (and lovely!) layer of added grain/sensor noise on the final product. It looks great and it's a 100% faithful representation of the source, but I'm not sure I can call it the best on the format!

There is no Disnee de-graining on the UHD and BD of TLJ.

Looper was great. Then he had to try and recycle the ideas into Star Wars.

Yay. Another thread to crap about Star Wars and TLJ. We haven't had one of those for a while now. I wonder what Looper is and why people waste time and energy talking about it?

People gotta make sure they constantly announce how much they don’t like Last Jedi. It’s the only way they can stay alive.

It was originally brought up by someone who said it was almost as good as Empire, not someone who was shitting on it.

It's a shame really as, IMO, Rian Johnson is one of the best directors working today with Looper and Knives Out as proof of that. Even The Last Jedi was an incredibly well-directed film and on a technical and visual standpoint is the best in the saga. It also felt like the only Star Wars film since the prequels that felt like it was trying something new with the franchise. Not to derail this thread into a Last Jedi debate, but IMO The Last Jedi is the most under appreciated film in the entire saga by fans. For me, it's up there with Empire as one of the best.
Yeah but this thread is about a good movie.

I understand that there's a digital version but in SDR, so we can't really know how the HDR will look like, but do you think it will be another "SDR in HDR container"?

Yes, because Johnson and Yedlin hate HDR.

I'd possibly like Entertainment One to release this on 4K Blu-ray in the UK and Spain next year since I heard Entertainment One already confirmed a UK 4K Blu-ray release for Ender's Game.

I couldn't get into Brick. At all. I even tried twice.

That having been said, I enjoyed Looper and Knives Out.

I really only saw Brick once and enjoyed it, have no rush to re-watch it though.

With that said, I've yet to watch Brothers Bloom still. I have it, just never watched it.

Brother, I feel you there! Loved LOOPER (despite its overt time-travel logic flaw), loved THE LAST JEDI (yeah, suck it), and though I haven’t yet watched my blind buy of KNIVES OUT, it looks like a lot of fun. But BRICK played like some kind of weird private joke between him and a couple of buddies.

In my opinion The Brothers Bloom is his weakest film. Brick is weird, but it has its appeal, IMO this kind of neo noir doesn't really work with a high school setting.
However, I do think that both presents Johnson's potential as a director and that he was still trying to figure out how to gradually reveal information to the audience, which sometimes isn't as clear as it should be in both Brick and Brothers Bloom. He did improve and it was done really well in Looper and Knives Out. But I'm still going to say that his biggest achievement was The Last Jedi, in terms of how he connected the overall themes to the characters and their arcs.
