Default The PS5 Rant & Frustrations Thread

Okay, i feel it's probably more than appropriate the resident loudmouth for criticising PS5 & Sony recently makes this thread

Jokes aside, there's beginning to be more and more stuff coming out and i think we need a thread like this to cover a lot of frustrations and rants that may occur. To start with, i'm not going to keep updating the OP but let it all run as a discussion style thread but i'll start off with some stuff

*PS5 doesn't allow any 3rd party internal storage upgrades to the internal at launch. You MUST wait on a Sony FW update to enable this feature. The internal storage is confirmed at around 667GB from the 825GB.

*You apparently as of 6/11/2020 CANNOT use external storage to store PS5 games at all and then move them to internal storage to save space and potential download time frustrations. Reports say you can ONLY play PS4 titles stored on external HDDs etc.

*The Game Library section doesn't match current PS4 options to filter by A-Z, Z-A, Recently Used or Install Date. It's just a mass list of last used or installed games despite being an extremely easy filter to add to the UI.

I know some of the other things are probably still coming but wanted to cover a few off to start with. I recently watched the DF video review for Miles Morales tech breakdown and the 30fps with RTRT and 60fps without it at a Dynamic 4K but frustratingly they don't seem to have tried to aim for a 1080p/60fps with RTRT which admittedly is a minor gripe but would have been really interesting to see for those playing on 1080p TVs still.

So, i'll let you guys take over

Just to show that I'm not immune to PlayStation frustration...

1. No folder creation in PS5 UI at launch

2. No suspend/resume feature in PS5 UI at launch.

I'm confident we will get these via update at some point, but WTF Sony! How do you not have these ready at the launch?

It sincerely makes you wonder how much of a significant disconnect there is between the UX and hardware planning because they're both internal at Sony you'd feel like they'd know almost from the get go they have an NVMe and even then, even if they didn't, how you can launch with functions currently on PS4 is beyond me.

I thought you weren't invited?

But yeah too many to list. All things that should and could be fixed with future updates, but why were they removed in the first place? Some of these features have been on PS4 for years now. Come on Sony...

About #2

I know you can switch games like MS but didn’t know about suspend/resume missing in review units.

My only beef is I cannot use my $500 SSD External to transfer games to & from.

I was hoping at some point soon DF test the external storage speeds for SSD etc. like they did on Series X but given the bizarre test results of loading speed on the internal NVMe drives for PS5 & Series X, i'm not left hopeful

Apparently the PS5 does allow storage of PS5 games to the external but must be moved back to the internal which is to be expected per the IGN review video on YouTube. Circa 11 mins, 30 sec timestamp.

Personally i don't believe it was. The PS4 is 7 years at this point and Sony extended the gen again with the Pro models but we were due an upgrade. The problem squarely imo lies on incompetence in their own processes. They are botching this by stupid things being wrong.

I don’t mean that it wasn’t time for an upgrade, I mean that that it wasn’t fully done cooking before they took it out the oven.

Even though I am excited to get my hands on it, if I hadn’t already sold my PS4 when it was revealed Horizon II and Miles Morales would be on PS4 I would have absolutely held off on getting this for another 18 months or so minimum like I did for PS4.

Oh, well i mean i still think it's down to extremely poor planning on their resources and so on. Say what you like about MS lacking games, but their core UX and OS functions are rock solid. Considering those are led by teams not responsible for making games too, it's an Apple to Apples comparison and Sony falls down against MS on this. Its bizarre tbh.

I feel like it could have easily been a holiday 2021 launch. I feel bot this and Xbox are at least a year too early.

I feel like I'm going to be playing more PS4 games on PS5 than I will be actual PS5 games for at least the first 12-18 months.

I'm almost glad the US got this a week earlier. Gives me extra time to deliberate on it all.

Holiday 2021 means you have significantly more games out by then and PS5 optimised titles, internal storage issue resolved and possibly actual bundle deals. Given the PS4 will receive almost all the big hitters, the ONLY thing i want to hopefully confirm is if the PS+ collection can be redeemed on the web store and used down the line when you do buy a PS5 for Holiday 2021

I generally try and be hopeful, however ..
  • They omitted info from some of their early reveals (Miles Morales is PS4 cross-gen) that could have avoided some people's frustration had they been more transparent.
  • Would be nice to get that auto-HDR feature that XBOX gets against its back compat library.
  • I think 1440p is more important than 8k for more people. Very weird to omit this, unless they patch it in later ... it's a long generation after all.
  • Actual hands-on coverage of the system literally only just happening.
Sony has been lacking in this area a lot during October. This is one reason most people are now talking about what the XBOX has that the PS5 doesn't, when perhaps the PS5 actually offers more against an XBOX than we currently know. Though their actual official reveal videos have been far superior.
  • Sony releasing the console a week later than NA in most of the world

I don't believe that the hardware itself was rushed but clearly Sony does not prioritize the non-gaming, "quality of life" features the way MS does. In that way, Sony is much more like Nintendo. The Switch's UI is as absolutely barebones as you can get. Their online is a joke. Yet Nintendo fans/Switch owners don't seem to care. The difference is I do believe that Sony WILL patch most of these things in at some point. Nintendo just doesn't give a shit. LOL!

The Switch’s one actually works to its benefit with its limited resources; I was reading the other day the UI only uses something a couple of megabytes of RAM or less because its so simple. When you’ve only got 4GB of RAM you have to cut corners

Just saw this post on reddit, Game Library does have some filters.
  • A-Z
  • Z-A
  • New-Old
  • Old-New
  • Most Recent

I actually do not mind the simple UI on the Switch. It serves it's purpose and get you into your games pretty quickly. At the end of the day, that's really all I want. I just wish you could create folders. I'm still amazed that PS5 is not launching with that feature. That was one of THE most requested features by PS4 owners and we've had it for what? Since 2016? How in God's name does Sony not think to just automatically carry that feature over to PS5? I know it's an all new UI but come on!
