I haven't seen "greed" ever bring down a studio. I've seen runaway budgets, indulgent directors, and giant flops take down Orion, Carolco, and United Artists.

I wouldn't complain if we got them in 3-D...

Probably would because they'd look like garbage. 2-D to 3-D conversion looks like paper cutouts tossed around. Either you render it/shoot it in 3-D, or don't bother

Don't forget New Line, which was absorbed.

That just isn't true. It's going to be a very very very long time before Blu-ray is no longer the mainstream format for viewing films at home. 3D obviously isn't going to catch on, they've been trying forever to get it going and it always fails to create a dent in the market. Blu-ray is the future for home entertainment, and it will be for a long long long time.

You know, it's not really a matter of money. After all, like JJxiv1215 said... it's not a financial issue, the EEs won't probably be released until late 2010, at least. The thing is, after I've watched all three EEs, I can't fully enjoy these chopped, watered down versions of the movies. I love LOTR as much as the next person, but I want the complete films, not just the theatrical version. I'll wait for the next release!

too bad george lucas doesn't know that
with his Star Wars 3D theory

Jeez, these guys are some real haters

It is clearly mentioned that they are theatrical editions. PJ has also already said that they will release the Extended Editions at a later date. I dont know what the issue is here. If you are not incensed by it and are a patient person, no need to vote it down right?

Its too bad there is no way to track all the people saying that they wont buy it because of no EE. My guess is, one week after release, many will cave in and buy it

many of the EE fans will cave and buy the theatricals eventually

yeah right, the world will end in next minute, because you don't have EE right now right ? and other 5000 other movies too, right ?

so you don't take any word from Jackson right ? he is screwing you, because he told you he want to make great special EE edition in coming years, but he needs time, because he is working on Hobit...

M.

I will be waiting for the EE, I am truly not interested in getting the theatrical cuts, will see them I am sure, too many people I know will be jumping on them as soon as they come out. I just prefer the EE.

This complaining about it being the Theatrical Editions is tilting me to no end. The Extended Editions will be out YEARS from now. Not EVERYBODY wants the EEs. There will be A LOT of people who just want the standard versions. This is a great thing that they are releasing the Blu-ray theatrical versions in the meantime, so people can get their LOTR BR fix in before the EE are released in who knows how long?

This is like complaining when the original versions of the trilogy came out in the Summer a few years ago when you KNEW that the EE were coming out only a few months later!

I have to remember that everyone on the internet is 12 years old and loves to whine.

(to anyone that is 12 years and is mature, I'm sorry)

Peter Jackson wants input on the EE and it is all up to him when the EE are released.

Not to sound like I'm "whining" but why couldn't they release both versions now with seamless branching just as they did with the most recent SD releases and then years down the road release the Super Ultimate Deluxe edition boxset to coincide with The Hobbit. I'm sure there is enough unreleased material to get the real hard core fans (myself included) to double dip on a definitive blu-ray collection.

The movie industry isn't made up of non-profit organizations.
