Two things:

1. The mods actually removed the post, even though it's still accessible through your link, which makes me wonder if they believe it's a fake.

2. If it is legit, are we sure it's not just for international users instead of Hulu? (Which, obviously, they don't have.)

I assume that's the same - likely fake - video from the Reddit link posted above.

It MAY be for other countries....but in the USA, those 18+ titles will be part of the upcoming Disney Star service. From what I understand it's NOT the same app as Disney+, it's an app unto itself.

STAR will be an international streaming service with content from ABC, FX, Freeform, Searchlight, and 20th Century Studios.

It will not be available in the US. Disney owns Hulu (US only) which gets some of the above.

Yeah, which is a possibility I raised a few posts above tjritter79's reply to my more recent post, but the r/disneyplus mods and members seem to think it's a fake video anyway despite that, and they pointed out some compelling evidence (lettering issues, etc.).

Who owns Futurama? I was just about to buy the seasons on iTunes and am curious if the early years will eventually become HD which led me to wonder if Disney own them as the show left Fox after a couple of seasons.

Agreed, but Lee, I've read nothing that states *Star will NOT be part of the US market. Yes, the Disney Star brand is "international" but the fact that it contains US cable & broadcast content (FreeForm & ABC) that is NOT shown on Hulu, leads me to think that this will either be a separate service to the US (a "fourth wheel" on the bundle) or an outside chance its added to D+ as a "section" (like Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, etc.). Also consider that the "Touchstone" catalog still doesn't have a "home" in the Disney landscape and some of Disney's late-70's to early-80's adult leaning fare (SWTWC for ex.) is glaringly missing from Disney's streaming offerings. Considering that TV entertainment today is more "global" then ever (something Netflix has successfully manipulated) I think the *Star brand is not so unknown in the US as many believe.....this all leads me to think someway, somehow, this will be introduced to the US market.

....and, if I might add, it goes hand-in-hand with what ViacomCBS has done/ is doing regarding the release/introduction of Paramount +. Paramount being globally the more recognizable brand.

Not saying this will be.....just stating my personal opinion on the matter, and it makes good sense from a business perspective.

Disney is launching a new Star-branded streaming service internationally

Quote:
Disney plans to launch a new general entertainment streaming platform overseas in 2021 under the Star brand name, CEO Bob Chapek announced today. Chapek didn’t give too many details about the platform, including in which countries Star would launch or pricing, but he noted that it would include content from ABC, FX, Freeform, Searchlight, and 20th Century Studios.

OK, but..........

https://whatsondisneyplus.com/disney...aming-service/

"During the financial call, it was said that Hulu is only known within the US, the Hulu branding doesn’t mean as much as “Star”. And with Hulu featuring lots of licensed content, Star will just offer Disney owned content. Also, with NBC Universal owning 33% of Hulu, by launching the new service as Star, it wouldn’t increase the value of Hulu, resulting in Disney having to pay more to Comcast when it eventually buys out their existing contract."

Now, I'll agree I'm not a brilliant man, but WHY mention Hulu and NBC Universal (NBC is not well-known internationally either?) if the intention was ONLY to release this overseas? If it's a GLOBAL service, the U.S. is still part of the globe, correct? The implication to me is this will be released everywhere including the U.S. At least that's how I interpret this....and that last sentence I underlined, is WHY I think it makes GREAT business sense!

Disney Assumes Full Control of Hulu in Deal With Comcast

May 14, 2019

Quote:
Disney is now the only one with its hands on Hulu’s steering wheel.

Disney and Comcast announced a deal under which Disney will assume full operational control of Hulu, effective immediately. Within five years, Comcast has agreed to sell its Hulu stake to Disney for at least $5.8 billion.

Under the deal, Comcast’s NBCUniversal will continue to license content to Hulu through late 2024. However, as soon as next year, NBCU will have the right to pull back programming previously licensed exclusively to Hulu (continuing to make it available to Hulu on a nonexclusive basis for a reduced licensing fee). And by 2022, NBCUniversal will have the right to cancel most of its content-licensing agreements with Hulu. NBCU is planning to launch a free, ad-supported streaming service for pay-TV subscribers.
https://variety.com/2019/digital/new...al-1203214338/

And as you pointed out, if Disney took Hulu worldwide, it would increase the final price they have to pay NBCUniversal. So instead they will use STAR which is currently in India (Disney came to own this through the Fox buyout) and make that their exclusive Disney owned content worldwide (but not in the US) streaming service.

So Disney will put drips and drabs of it's mature oriented content on Hulu until the deal is finalized with NBCU when they are free to do whatever they want - even rename it if they choose.

I'll only re-subscribe for a month when Soul comes out, but then it's dead to me until they can start adding more value to this platform.
Soul is December, WandaVision is January, Black Widow rumored for April.

30th Century Fox. I bought the series on iTunes upon learning it wouldn’t be on Disney+. I’d imagine if it were included on an adult Disney app they would just crop the top and bottom like Disney+ did with the early seasons of The Simpsons

Disney+ did not modify The Simpsons’ aspect ratio. That was done by Fox for the FXX syndication deal.

Okay, I thought because the show moved to a different network that perhaps Fox didn’t own the later seasons.

I wouldn’t have expected it to be on Disney+ because of the suicide booths and the sexual content.

I haven’t seen The Simpsons in years - since the the movie - and don’t know if I would get back into it but cropping it to make it look widescreen is daft. It must look horrible.
