I can't remember if it's on the Spears & Munsil UHD or on some new test patterns that Stacey Spears aksed me to try out, but the gist of it is that the various RGBYCM colours clip on or around 1200 nits, some go higher but only by a little. So while the ZD9 can do almost 2000 nits of peak brightness without clipping it can't do 2000 nits of colour without clipping. Many UHDs don't get near those levels, hence Kris Deering saying that the ZD9 effectively shows 1000-nit content in "1:1" fashion, but those mastered with the Light Cannon™ e.g. most Sony catalogue titles tend to look harsh as a result because they're pushing the brightness and colour into thousands of nits. (But even if I could view them with full brightness and colour it'd still be too overcooked for my liking, 35mm catalogue stuff simply was not meant to be viewed with so much light being blasted through it.)

Excuse me for asking a question that may have already been addressed in this 331 page thread, but if I have an 820 with my LG C9, should I be setting the panel type to OLED or something else? I've noticed a lot of discussion here about that but have been unable to determine a clear conclusion, so any advice would be super!

I think you can alleviate most of it by connecting your player directly into your sound bar, but that isn't always ideal. |

![]() But I don't do VHS anymore, and gave away my Laserdisc player, and all movies in 1998. I'm always looking to the future though. Don't think home video will get another bump over 4K UHD. I think we finally reached our destination in perfection. |

Little known fact . I own the panny UB 820 and a Hisense H9G. I discovered this TV will decode HDR10+ along with Dolby Vision if you have the player. So with physical media you will get HDR10+! I have settings for Dolby Vision so I don't really use HDR10+. It was a pleasant surprise since there is no where on the box that says that. It's the only TV I know of that does both.

The top menu trick does not work with the vast majority of locked titles from major studios. It's indie stuff like Criterion and Arrow where it works more often than not, though not all indies use the same type of authoring so releases from Kino and Shout rarely work either.

The Panasonic GZ and HZ series OLEDs also do both.
The only disc I have that has HDR10+ as its only format of dynamic metadata is Parasite, though. |

I must have got a dud. This player was awesome at first but then the problems started.
First off, I played the notable issues of the UHD's of Knives Out and then Midway, expecting problems with both discs. Knives Out played flawlessly, Midway did have the expected freezes/flaws? So reading this forum and lots of reviews I thought that sucks but if that's the only issues I can live with that. Well like my first statement says, I either have a defective player or this thing is a piece of sheet (optimizer and all). Played Honeymooners and the Flintstones, both have playing issues? Is this an effed up player or do I have to except the player doesn't play everything like my Sony does? Forgot to mention my $50 seiko player, plays these discs fine.
