Hey now.

Birds of Prey was as good as they could get it for the time.

I still think it's much better than the last few seasons of Smallville and the truck-sized plotholes.

Good to see that amazon is confident that season eight will be released on Blu, same with Supernatural, but hopefully we get some Lossless audio, plus a much improved picture. It's Warner though, so it's all up in the air until we get some concrete info. Keeping my fingers crossed though.

My hope for lossless audio could become a double edged sword. They could always release it with a lossless track, but it could be rather poor. It's hard to say, but it would be nice to see Warner do a good job on the upcoming season. After seeing some of Lost on Blu, I think there's a big upgrade needed for Smallville on Blu-ray.

Supernatural has Smallville beat on music, humor, and consistent/inventive storytelling (getting better and better each season).

Supernatural does not have the best action though, so I will give that one to Smallville, but its not like Smallville is action packed or anything.

Dont get me wrong, I love Smallville, but the show is way to formulaic. In the end everything is always back to normal. This show wont let its characters grow, and when they finally do, its not long (usually within an episode) that they revert back.

Smallville is also lacking when it comes to humor. I usually laugh AT LEAST ONCE (if not more) during an episode of Supernatural, which is very good for a horror/drama. Smallville, the show that is supposed to be a little campier than that, has made me laugh maybe once per season (if that). Comic relief is essential to any good show/movie, and Smallville fails at it.

And they do it with the most forumulatic asinine ways of doing things like the time warp that they did for Infamous. LAME-@$$.

It was one step away from taking a step to the left then a hop to the right.

You're not watching it right IMO, Smallville makes me laugh all the time. Of course I'm sure it's not supposed to be making me laugh, but ever since season 5 I'm been laughing my @$$ off.

i've never seen supernatural so i cant really challenge any of your points, but i will say the laughing one is kind of weak. no one (that i know of) watches smallville to laugh it's an action/drama tv show, and yes there's occasional (if not lacking) humor, but that's not the point of the show...

I would argue that comic relief is essential to any action/drama/horror/sci-fi/western, you name it, essential to anything.

Why?

Because its a natural part of human interaction. Its a way that people bond, its a way that people cope with loss, its a way people relax, etc.

humor/laughter/joking is natural in humans. We do it all the time. In professional environments, on solemn occasions, when we worry, when we are happy, and when we are just with friends.

Now I understand that Smallville isnt a comedy but taking that aspect out of any movie/tv show dehumanizes it. It makes it that much harder to relate with the characters (and I have to tell you i can rarely relate to how the characters in Smallville are feeling, especially in these last few seasons).

Now Smallville of course doesnt leave comic relief out, its just terrible at it .... which makes the show that much worse. Not to mention the terrible plots and over-dramatic acting.

Dramas have jokes, Comedies have drama, Westerns have action, etc

Aren't all shows like that, essentially?

Short Answer: NO

Long Answer: Well lets just look at Supernatural cuz its morning and I gotz places I gotz to be. Ya at the end of every episode (for the most part) the two brothers are back together in the car going to the next "job" but things in the show do change, and they stay changed. The only thing they ever un-did is the deaths of two characters, but they didnt do it in a cheesy "cop-out" sort of way, its actually a really cool well written story arc.

Its true Supernatural, like most shows, follows a formula but it isnt affraid to stray away and make some lasting changes. In Smallville, we have many many episodes where something significant happens, and then its just undone within seconds with something as silly as time travel, or a memory ray to make people forget. The characters just wont grow even though they should have a long time ago. I understand that most of this is contractual but it still doesnt mean its good.

Tess Mercer is the worst recurring character they've ever created. I'd rather watch a marathon of Jason Teague episodes then her. The character is poorly written, poorly acted, and really poorly conceived. To think that Lex had apparently been mentoring her for so long (while all this stuff with Lana was going on?) and then would have her move into the mansion is just ludicrous.

I've found this season pretty good except for anything involving her.

The one that really bugged me was killing off Christopher Reeve's character after his death, that was fine, the character had to go somewhere but then killing off Margot Kidder's role as well, and it's just getting silly at this point.

Smallville also kills off established characters in rather inconsequential ways, for all the times that
[Show spoiler]Lex tried to kill his father or his father tried to teach Lex a lesson, they killed off Lionel without so much as a second thought
and the journal that reveals all of Clark's secrets floating around.

It's getting to the point of being extremely asinine, and the further along it goes with the contractual restrictions the worse it gets. If I see the commercial where they're trying to make Smallville look like Superman with Oliver dressed up as 'the red and blue blur' one more time I'm going to puke on Tom Welling's shoes.

Logan

i thought tonight was a subpar episode (i expected that)
i didn't really care for it, but it was still somewhat entertaining
especially when
[Show spoiler] Doomsday killed that dude off screen

but i did love the ending

next weeks looks to be pretty good
and we're inching closer to the season finale
the remaining episodes should be great

agreed on all points, at its core this was a filler episode but it still advanced the main plot a little, and yes...the ending with lois and clark talking kicked ass!
