That's cool, but avg is free, I don't photo or video edit. I sure as hell don't need or use 100 in music software?! Or pay geek squad for anything!?!?

Pay for anti-virus software? No thanks, and Geek Squad? Scraping the barrel with that one, but I guess they needed that extra $130 from somewhere. Funny thing is, I can build a much better computer than a Mac or any "name brand" PC for a lot less. My last one was dirt cheap, I paid a net $5 for my DVD burner after rebates, sound card maybe $10. I went nuts on my video card, it was around $400 ![]() Anyways is this guy trying to say that when you add all that extra stuff to a PC your almost to what a Mac costs? ![]() j/k ![]() |

![]() I don't think the 88% proves that people like PC. I just think a lot of people are stuck with that for now. And by people, I mean lots of businesses, who can't just easily switch. I think if you polled people and said they could have a PC or a Mac for free, the ratio would be closer to 1:1. Vista is what made me turn away from PC's, and I couldn't care enough to bother re-installing XP for the 5th time. I used my serial # too many times, because my computer was having issues, and I kept wiping the harddrive and starting anew. I remember the hassle it was to call up some guy in India and argue with him to give me a new serial # so I could reinstall Windows, and I don't feel like going through that again. The only way I'd bother using my laptop again is if MS offered me a free copy of Windows 7, to make up for the disaster of Vista (which is what is currently on my laptop, and ruined it). I will say this nice thing about MS though. I bought Vista within the first week or two that it was out, and had some issues with it, so I called the phone # in the booklet, and was able to talk to some American woman, who was incredibly helpful. I swear by the end of our call, she would've done anything I asked. ![]() But I couldn't help by think that MS just hired good support staff for the first few weeks/months Vista was out, and then fired them all, and started using people in India again. |

Reinstalling is obsolete!
Reactivating is also obsolete! Making a drive image with an Imaging Solution(like Acronis True Image) eliminates all the key inputs. OEM machines don't suffer from that key/activation mess in the first place, but imaging takes me about 14 minutes and everything is exactly where it was when the image was created! Software, patches, even pictures and documents. Vista SP1 is tame and stable... typing this on a Vista machine that is running quite well. ![]() Never had to deal with Vista pre-SP1, but from what I've read, it was a POS. This machine came with SP1 and has been great! |

My door swings both ways.
I don't lend any credence to Mac vs. PC arguments anymore because no matter whose side you're reading, it's always so slanted and the author tries too hard to "make their points" that they end up writing ridiculous irrelevant facts and stretching for semi-truths. The common one is "Macs don't freeze up or have problems." Not sure who started that one, but I've never used a Mac that didn't freeze up, hang, or need to be forcefully rebooted at some point. The counter argument pro-PC is the standard "all the best software is available for PC; Mac doesn't have very good software." Again, I'm not sure what that's all about. I've never had a Mac that was incapable of doing something that a PC can do (short of running an .exe file or something obvious like that). |

But Photoshop is FREE with a MAC? Doubtful. Either the writer is wrong, or they're neglecting to mention that you're paying for it in the initial system cost. Adobe is not in the business of giving out free software, especially when it's their premier program. Bulk discount may apply to apple, but apple won't give you a $600+ software program for nothing. NO computer company will. OSX is really sweet though, I have to admit. My next system is looking like it may be an apple, with Windows 7 running via VMWare Fusion. camper |

I run both PC and Mac and they both have their advantages. Just depends on what I'm doing or need.
Photoshop = 140.00 Seriously doubt that The full Photoshop CS suite is close to a grand. My daughter is an Art Director for a firm so she gets the bill for new software. |

Well my sister had to get a Mac for school, and it came loaded with a ton stuff for free (Photoshop being one of the pricier programs).
So it's certainly included in some cases for free (her computer wasn't any more than it'd cost to get in a store), but I imagine Apple works out deals with middle schools/high schools/colleges, and doubt you can go walk into the Apple store and walk out with a computer that has PS on it, without paying extra for the program. |

Regardless of what the idiot said, I have only owned Macs. One thing is for sure, my friends have spent a helluva lot lmore time "putting out fires" with their PCs than I have over the years. For every Mac I've purchased, it seems like friends and family members are constantly upgrading or replacing their PCs. I'm not an Apple disciple, but you gotta admit their stuff works—and very well.

It's not really the hardware which separates Macs from PCs. It is the operating system and software. Yes anybody can "build" or should say "assemble" a PC with with 100,000,000 PetaBytes of Hard drive, and 3 trillion Peta bytes of Ram, etc etc.... ok I am exaggerating a little bit.
