So theoretically Pioneer can easily do the same thing on their new model. Oh wait, maybe they are already doing it as in the menu there are settings for Reference, LCD TV, OLED TV and Projector. For legacy SDR displays, there are settings for 100nits, 300nits and 700nits.

And the better that displays get at showing higher nits like 2,000 or higher in the future, then the less need there is for tone mapping. It’ll be a moo point at some time.
If you want that feature just buy a Panasonic.

I just checked and Pioneer will officially be at CES at the beginning of next year, along with LG, Panasonic, TCL and Samsung.

Pioneer Corporation is not the Pioneer Electronics spin off. CES 2020 regarding Pioneer was against technology used with automotive technology and data solutions. See this older press announcement

You probably looked at the exhibitors for CES 2021 and assumed it was the same. 2021 CES will be hardly be a technology announcements blip even if all digital experience.

Note: In September 2014, Pioneer agreed to sell Pioneer Home Electronics (Home A/V) to Onkyo.

You really do talk a lot of "B" and "S". There's not even going to be a new Pioneer player and already you're lining up what "possible" features it has.

Also, OLED displays, which in my opinion provide the optimal Ultra HD Blu-ray viewing experience, have barely gotten brighter than 1000nits.
Your conjecture is Pioneer is going to have a similar feature to Panny's HDR optimizer for a product that has not been (and low probability of being) announced?

Your comments could be misconstrued as you are offering industry inside information. When your comments are actually just a random dude who wishes Pioneer would produce a new player with X features.

Please don't answer with "I'm just being logical"....cause that doesn't make (common) sense either.

Sorry ...did not read Geoff's post (so it's doubling down )

It’s about as bad as it gets

EXCLUSIVE: Onkyo Insolvent, Struggling To Stave Off Bankruptcy - ChannelNews.com.au - 11/23/20

You read the article, it’s highly visible the horrible state of their business has ended up with. You have Onkyo/Integra/Pioneer AV operations just a mothball fleet now. Not going to be at CES, certainly no products until they if ever emerge from insolvency after pandemic with factories closed for months piling up debt with some investment group funding.

Certainly no dealer will spin this news as anything hopeful. It’s over for now.

Onkyo receivers are quite popular. We still have a month before CES. The crisis is almost over. Pioneer told me CES. Don't believe me? Call them yourself. Someone else on another forum also said Pioneer told them there may be a new model. Believe me, people want these things. Their resale value shows you that. Once they get back in production again, I think enough people will order the new player among other products that the company will recover. How else can we help the company? If not CES, then when? IFA (February,) or even worse, CEDIA (September)? We can't have this be the end of a company with decades of innovation.

UPDATE: It looks like Pioneer has all but, albeit quietly, exited the disc player market. I have owned the Panasonic for a while now, and if you do want a machine with all these features there is the MAGNETAR.

If nothing meets your criteria then you'll never own a player then, I guess?

The Sony X1100ES plays SACD and DVD-Audio has DV/HDR10 (no 10+ support though) and is only $500. If Pioneer stops making UHD players it's an option for you, I know you want Pioneer though. Keep checking eBay or online marketplaces for a new one.

What you seem to fail to see, is when the creditors come to shut you down, it’s really hard to claw back up from that.

They’re not abandoning voluntarily, the raiders are picking at the carcass and only some survive that. I’ve had Pioneer Elite equipment, it used to be great.
But you wishing that survival happens, won’t mean one little thing in the marketplace or bankruptcy court.

As they say wish in one hand & $#!+ in the other see which one fills up first

Honestly "Pioneer" is a mere shell or is that "ghost" of their former selves, their relevance today means very little if at all, Onkyo too for that matter, their quality has been subpar for quite some time, these days it's a race to the bottom of the barrel unfortunately.

I really wish Pioneer would do Elite 4K OLED panels. There is a way for them to get back in the game but with the reports of possible financial struggles it's not looking likely. Still hope they release more UHD players though.

Tech world today is so different than 90's, early 2000's. People want cheap quality a/v gear sadly and the TV's they are selling all plastic and little lights inside. People happy with cheap a/v stuff because the quality is so good like QLED from Samsung and LED. You can get a 75 inch LED TV for under a grand. Yep, a more expensive and well made TV becoming a harder sell.

OLED is still the best out there for TV's and quality but Samsung's 8K sets are pretty solid.

He should get the Panasonic for HDR 10+. Pioneer is circling the drain, they're not coming back.

SA-CD and DVD-A are dead formats, so you're going to have to decide what's a priority, SA-CD or HDR 10+. When you think about it, both HDR 10 plus and SACD are kind of dead.

About as "dead" as Latin. And classical music. And boutique labels. And the Barbara Streisand Movie Album SA-CD I just bought. And the Johnny Mathis Christmas Album SA-CD I'll be listening to all month.

DVD-A is arguably a different situation as there aren't new releases happening on that format. (But I'm diggin' the Emmylou Harris Producer's Cut DVD-A I just got.)

But SA-CD is more alive than is the nasty habit of using an inappropriate word to describe its robust niche health.

I read in this article, that sales for SA-CD are about 400k annually

Kind of a silly argument actually. They sell what the masses want. They sell in quantity and want to move product quickly. TV's sell big and what is there to sell but 4K when it comes to TV's. In general, 4K players were not, so no need to stock. As for media, Yes, the media sold well. However, it was also a major shoplifting problem for them. Easier for them to stop selling the media then to change their operations around trying to prevent it.
