Most here know about Samsung, Oppo and Pioneer players. We also know about Sansui, Kenwood, Nakamichi, Panasonic TV and others.

By now most probably know there is a new UHD BD player in the form of PS5 becoming available and another one from Tascam coming after the first of the year.

I enjoy the Panny 820/9000 and the Oppo 203/205 threads where they actually talk about the players, their operation and issues. I thought that's why there are separate threads on each device, to actually talk about that device. I'm sure somewhere on this forum there is a thread that discusses whether the end is near for physical discs.

Thank you. In other news, digital music has taken over, owning music physical on archaic compact disc (and vinyl) is no longer an option because music companies found them non-profitable

I own an LX-500, that's why I'm drawn to this thread, to begin with. However, I can't nor will I refuse to acknowledge what's is clearly evident, which is that UHD Blu Ray and optical disc players, in general, are going out.

If that were true, Pioneer would have released a document or statement of some sort like OPPO and Samsung did. Every home theater enthusiast would be grieving over the loss of Pioneer right now, especially YouTube reviewer Youthman, who is the biggest reviewer on YouTube who uses the UDP-LX500 as his main player. We are not hearing any of that, and Pioneer still has the Blu-ray Disc page on their site if you scroll all the way to the bottom.

UPDATE: It looks like Pioneer has all but, albeit quietly, exited the disc player market. I have owned the Panasonic for a while now, and if you do want a machine with all these features there is the MAGNETAR.

I asked that because awhile back you were looking at Pioneer Australia site for products coming in March. I wondered where you were based. The PioneerhomeUSA site is mostly shuttered except for product support. There has not been any news since March concerning anything Pioneer because of COVID 19.

Their support line was down for months and didn't open back up again until just recently. Remember, Pioneer is moving U.S. distribution to Klipsch.

If that's the case then it was Indianapolis, In. Either way as others have said they would have no knowledge of upcoming products until the company formally announces.

And what is the hugest elephant in the room with that statement?

The fact that 150-200 million people are going to own 4K disc players in the next 5 years or so with the Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5. That is a whole new audience, and consumer base for the disc based 4K market (Sony has already branded some of their 4K films with the PS5 logo for marketing purposes).

Now I don't deny that dedicated high end UHD players may leave us. But it won't be because of lack of interest of discs, it will be the gargantuan competition from Sony, and Microsoft game systems that double as outstanding 4K BD players.

4K ain't goin nowhere.
