![]() I see Kong has something metal around his throat. Fashionable. It doesn't appear that they will be debuting the trailer at CCXP. I saw a schedule for Warner somewhere and there didn't really look to be any particular spots where GvK would be talked about. Surely we'll get it when WW84 comes out though. |

All the big WB movies get a super bowl ad. I'd almost put money on it |

You might want to rethink that bet: Warners haven't taken a SuperBowl spot in over a decade: the $5.6m a 30 second spot costs just isn't worth it even in a normal year, let alone at a time when a $5.6m opening weekend is still going to be a steep mountain to climb. For the past couple of years Sony has stopped as well.

They're gonna need a massive ad campaign for this venture. I think they're gonna put out all the stops for this.

At best HBO might consider a 30-second spot with 3 seconds per film, but SB spots are notoriously low yield - they're prestige bragverts for successful brands, not rainmakers. And spending that kind of showing off money after laying off thousands of staff would not be a good look. Last edited by Aclea; 12-07-2020 at 12:24 AM. |

Now Legendary and WB are said to be heading to court over WB's (AT&T, really) HBO Max decision, to duke it out over this film and all the others (Dune, SnyderCut, etc.) they have partnered on and yet to release. Legendary reportedly had absolutely no warning (it was rumored in the trades for a few months) about the HBO Max decision and it has reportedly cost them major money from Netflix and rival hulu, who would have been competing for the exhibition rights.

Legendary is owned by Wanda, so they're not going to come up short in the lawyer department.
Warners and Legendary have hated each other - really, really hated each other - for years, and even though Thomas Tull was shown the door after similarly fouling up their relationship with Universal in much less time, after the failure of GKOTM I'm guessing Warners just don't give a shit about any ongoing relationship even if things have become a bit less toxic before this (the Monsterverse was just the last frayed strand of their previous deal) and figure they'll just get the lawyers together and - It's hard to see the move as anything but a "***k you" from Warners to Legendary/Wanda. |
