Also, I am wondering what the typical production pipeline looks like for authoring a BD title.

Are the following typically done in-house or outsourced?

1. Encoding
2. Menus and interactive features
3. Disc mastering
4. Disc pressing

Thanks!

question: i forgot where i read it but isn't director Kevin Smith teaming up with a studio (or BDA affiliate?) to promote Blu-Ray by giving some families the total HD package including a Blu-Ray player and movies for free? something like that? anyone?

going back to a previous question

the disney advert in the homemedia magazine shows a display stand they use, it has a sony DB player and another player with a white/grey or silver bezel on it in a box, what is that player? anyone know?

More of an intellectual curiosity question than anything else but...

To Paidgeek:
Were Blades of Glory Blu-rays ever actually pressed by Sony DADC? I ask because it was supposedly spec'd as BD50, which only Sony would have been able to press in quantity.

Default 1.1 und BD-Live

Hi,

i can't find any official announcement from Sony that the current PS3 will support Profile1.1. Is it true that they do not have to meet the october deadline since it is an already released product?

Wouldn't it be good if Sony could push out an update very soon since it would bring a critical mass of 1.1/BD-Live players instantly? What is holding them back?

Shugs, you’re killin me but, in a charming way.
If it’s a done deal and the ink is dry, probably not.

Again it all depends on the sensibilities of the parties involved and how much they want to internally control the situation for strategic purposes, egos, last minute paranoia…….whatever.

It really is a case by case thing, there is no cookbook to it.

Believe me, paidgeek and talkstr8t take no joy in posting there.
They view it essentially as a FUD control responsibility and as a place to post occasional public polls for consumer input.

They try to be as polite as possible in the meantime even though they know that everything there is stacked against them, intentionally.

Welcome Ron.
I didn’t recognize the handle but, I certainly recognized the sig.

This is the greatest thing about this forum.
We’ve got a spectrum of people with fabulous techie credentials, some unbiased movie reviewers, real studio insiders (not, people that work for Micro$oft and portray themselves to be), CFO’s, too many attorneys to even innumerate, a resident psychologist that probably knows more movie quotes than I do, members all over the world with unique nationalities (at least to most of us), etc. etc. and most importantly, good ole grass roots early adopting hobbyists that all contribute to a fabulous harassment free zone for the appreciation of high definition optical movies and games.

I’m invited over to a studio (not Sony) colleague’s home to partake of the grape and eat barbecue ribs and such this afternoon.
Believe me, he prefers to remain anonymous as he would never want someone like an unaccredited Micro$oft journalist hound him over the internet.

I’ll see if I can bring back any info I can share. I’ll tell you right now, don’t plan on much…………. because if we talk film, I expect him to mostly tease me as to what cut of Across the Universe the public will be seeing in the upcoming theatrical presentation to hit theaters in Sept.

In fact, don’t plan on anything, that way, nobody here will be disappointed if I return empty handed. But, I’ll see if I can bring back a doggie bag with even the tinniest of bones for some to chew on.

Later.

Holy crap! I hadn't heard of this movie yet but based on your comment I checked out the trailer. I looks like it'll be amazing.

Penton-Man, please put me out of my misery because I’ve been thinking about it all weekend!

Tell me your “two beautiful females” quote really meant nothing at all, except the fact on Friday you were actually just lucky enough to cater to actual two females! But don’t reply back and ignore this if it DID!!

Other than that, I just want to thank you, Paid, Talkstr8t for your time and dedication here and putting up with the FUD on AVS. Thank you all.

Evidently 1 big exclusive manufactuer for BD is going to switch to producing HD DVD players, and 1 or 2 others will switch to being neutral.

supposed to be annouced at cedia according to one HD-DVD insider at AVS.
Any truth in this? or just FUD tactics

Sony does the vast majority, if not all of their work in-house. Warner used to when they owned WAMO (Warner Advanced Media Operations). The rest farm it out to authoring houses.

There are some places that only do menus, but many of them are all-encompassing like 1K, Digital, Ascent, DVCC and such

Special features are typically done by an outside producer who may or may not be connected to one of those facilities (often not)

paid already answered this - said they weren't a great showcase of HD so not likely to be done soon:
