USA Elite SC-05 or Marantz SR6003 ?

I'm having a difficult time choosing between these 2. Is the SC-05 worth the addtional $75 in your opinion?

What do you think?

"I do have a significant issue revolving around high bit-rate playback that I feel I must share. The Marantz cannot apply Audyssey processing to lossless audio sources. I did question Marantz about this, and here is their response: “Less is more. In all Marantz products, the underlying philosophy is that the less processing the better, which means the better the sound. This is even more relevant when you get into the higher resolution formats.” While I do believe that minimal manipulation of the source is a good thing, the advantages of Audyssey seem to far outweigh the cons unless you have an acoustically perfect room. Being that many of the SR6003’s competitors have this capability, I feel that this is a very big oversight on Marantz’s part. Even though lossless soundtracks sounded very good as is, I can only imagine how much better they’d be with Audyssey processing."

Regarding the Marantz, should this be a cause for concern?

I had issues with the 7002 (a plethora of them, well-documented ones on the AVSForum thread with the 7002) - but the 6003 seems to have none of these issues, and is quite a looker to boot. I went Pioneer after the 7002, to the VSX-03, which of course, is the step fown from the 05 - but, you know, for all practical purposes, you an't go wrong with either of them. I do prefer MCACC to Audyssey and the gloss black finish to the gunmetal, but as far as the sound goes, that is up to your ears. And on that first note, Marantz customer service is notoriously ineffective. I would know!

JJ you really like the MCACC over audyssey? i love audyssey and im so use to it. thats the only reason im still deciding between the denon and pioneer. i might have to by both and see how they sound in my room.

heard really good things with the ICE amps developed in union with Bang and Olefson.

6th Ave is running a make an offer deal. Basically what it is you make a reasonable offer on a product and they will either accept ot decline.

A member here got an sc05 for 649.99 and another for 697.00

I bid last night fot the 649.99(cross my fingers) hopefully they accept.

Wow, I did not expect it to be this lopsided....especially considering that most of the reviews suggest that the SR6003 is the superior of the two......ugh....what to do, what to do....

Marantz should sound better over all. So that's my vote. ICE amps and what not(co-developed by Bang and Olufsen), man I love Danish products but this is one Danish manufacturer that puts more emphasis on looks rather than performance. Most of B & O products are over priced and over rated but I should stop here before I derail this thread any further.

I would vote for the SC-05 and thats not just because I have one. The ICE amps really do make a difference and the sound is to die for, plus its amazing amount of features especially when compared to the Marantz.

Check out these reviews on the SC-05 and SC-07 though:

that's not much more than i paid for my 03 a couple months back. ugh...

Marantz have a great sound. JJ's issues have scared me off them a bit. I still voted for it in your poll, but if you start to have issues, jump ship to the SC-05.

For me personally, i'd rather have an Elite AVR and Marantz separates

Right?! I paid $750 for my 03 back in mid-December, and thought I was getting a heck of a deal since they were $1,000.

And I agree with your last statement.

Thanks again for the info... I think I had spoken with you before about the SC-05 and was VERY close to picking one up.

However, after much deliberation I have chosen to go with.....drum roll please...

Marantz SR6003

I dig the dual HDMI out (though I would have liked 1 more HDMI in), I like the class A/B functionality, and nearly every review concludes that Marantz simply puts out a better sound quality.

Thanks again for the feedback

i voted for the marantz, eventhough you already decided lol, because i have this receiver. check out my gallery...

i havent ever owned a pioneer, so i cant really speak for them. i have not had any problems with the 6003. i only have my two fronts hooked up so far and it sounds amazing. i really like it. i think you made a good choice!!

i can confer with JJ, as he had alot of problems with his Marantz Sr-7002 , My self , I have had no problems with the SR-7002, As lonbg as you learn how to use it it, and understand thier manual, and I am pretty brand loyal to Marantz, as its still rockin the house , I also just finished up my Klipsch Refference speakers and the tow combine'd are awesome together, This is my 4th marantz Klipsch setup and I'm very happy with them, in the past I have had others, Pioneer, Kenwood,Paradigam, bose,
sony, realistic,Teac,Yamaha, advent, and so many more, overall I just go back to Marantz & Klipsch, they are very good, and I love them..JM2C..

Hey, hey. I had no problems "understanding the manual" or "knowing how to use it" - but I went through two 7002s and had to climb my way up to the service head of D&M to get my issue resolved, and it never did. Then I discovered the AVSForum thread on it, where it had issues coexisting with many Blu-ray players - so I said adios to it. (I'm not going to readdress my problems with it, there are many threads around here on it)

I never had problems with its sound or anything, that was wonderful. I had problems with Marantz customer service as well as its reliability. But I did hear that the 6003 is issue-free.
