Getting tense on these Darabont anniversary titles? Disney is late to announce often (lion king), but Warners usually has a decent lead time. And we ain't heard sheet on this or Green Mile...

Hmmm. Which sucks as I have come a long way in my earlier thinking regarding this benefiting from PQ upgrade. Now I wants it!

Fathom has SHAWSHANK back in theaters in September, and WB only has one UHD currently on deck for that month (boxset BATMAN films). Keeping fingers crossed.

I’m not above extrapolation: the blu of Shawshank was released mid-November back in 2010. If that timing holds, hopefully we will see it on 4K by the holidays of 2019 for its 25th anniversary.

It's strange neither have been announced yet, maybe when It: Chapter Two comes on home media.

Its now 2019. 25th anniversary coming up and re-release this month, there is got to be a 4k release soon! It would be the perfect time to do it.

weird that this is such a popular and beloved film yet I still don't think a 4K scan exists

Could not have been more appropriate had they released this at the same time as Stand By Me. But alas.

it makes no sense to me why there is no 4K remaster of this film. It's one of the most beloved films ever made and one of WB's most popular titles on home videos. Really makes me have to wonder if there is something wrong with the original negatives or something because a remaster of this seems like a no brainer

This and Green Mile badly requires some serious attention and a red carpet release.

I've watched The Green Mile blu-ray just the other day, and it looked excellent upscaled in 4K. And speaking of The Green Mile, the late: Michael Clarke Duncan should've won an Oscar for Best Actor for his superb performance for that movie. I was literally in tears.

I'm sure we'll be seeing Shawshank in 4K over the next couple of years. Covid forced the studios to stop down on these restorations, especially if they involve the filmmaker. A lot of the releases we've seen in 2020, have been existing 4K transfers that were in the studio vaults. WB has a lot more catalog planned for 2021, hopefully this is one of them.

As I’m scrolling through the thread it was obvious I totally forgot about COVID this year. Hope the predicted 2021 holds true. There’s all types of classics like Wizard of Oz and It’s a Wonderful Life in 4K and Shawshank is in that category...4K is an inevitability.

It’s in my top five of all time and I’m sure in virtually everybody’s top 20. This is a day one purchase for me
