Hopefully the CD+G feature is included. Always wanted that and missed out.

I played the disc on my player and it played fine without any freezes. You may possibly have a faulty player.

Well I sure hope not. I’ve watched about 20-30 movies on it so far and it’s only happened this once. However, I have till January 15th or whenever to exchange it and I also got the four year protection plan.

Can anyone help me, please? Avsforums states that my Q85 Samsung " measured a peak brightness of 1015 nits", should I choose "Middle or high" or "Super luminance" on my UB820?

I'd select mid luminance LCD for your TV.

My live webinar starts at 12pm EST today. Hope to see many of my Blu-ray.com friends in the chat room.

The default middle/high luminance is usually the best, at least for 95% of TV's.

Thanks, any other suggestions for the best settings? I’m thinking of HDR Optimizer and the likes.

Just FYI, when you play a movie, you'll need to manually enable HDR Optimizer through the options settings. You only need to do this once and it remembers thereon. Otherwise, even though you set it in the main settings menu from home screen, it won't engage automatically until you manually do so. There are 2 custom "set 1 and set 2".

For all the other video settings, starting off with everything on "Auto" is usually the best.

Seems you have to sign in. So I'll ask here. How'd it go? Thoughts? Opinions? Are we getting a real firmware update?

I have lip sync issue with the UB420 model. I only notice it when using the HDMI Audio Only jack. Any idea why this would be any different than the main HDMI Video/Audio out?

Guess no one else has had my issue of constant freezing, discs not playing, macroblocking etc.

Ganna just exchange this player for the same one at best buy. If it happens again I'll have to go back to the sony... ugh

My 820 player doesn't have a 4:3 setting to choose from. The player just immediately sets everything to 16:9 which means everything gets stretched to take out the black bars. I do like watching stuff in 4:3 with my TV set to 16:9. Such a shame Panasonic got rid of the option to change ratio outputs.

Not sure I totally understand - what exactly is it you’re trying to watch? If it’s something 4:3 on Blu-ray like, say, the original Twilight Zone, it should automatically appear in the correct aspect ratio?

Listened to the webcast yesterday. Good information. Freezing, macroblocking was not specifically addressed. Also not directly asked or addressed the problems with Dolby Vision on Midway and Knives Out. Good explanation on why Robert and Panasonic believe using the Optimizer and not Dolby Vision is the better option with this player. Probably the reason.

Robert did hint that a firmware update may be in the works, but no time frame given and also no explanation as to why the updates in other markets were not available in the US.

As I have said before, I do not think it is the 820. I'm currently watching the 1st Pokemon Movie on DVD (which is in fullscreen for most countries) on my 820 and it is not stretched. It's in the 4:3 format/1.33 aspect ratio. My guess is that your TV's settings are set to Zoom. I think there is a button on the Samsung Remotes that can change the Screen Size. The 820 does not stretch things out, which is good since it's keeping the proper aspect ratio of each thing you put into the player.

so after being particularly disappointed by the 4k discs of the Daniel Craig Bond movies I started playing with my settings again (I know.. usually a big mistake)

Question I have---

should I pick the medium luminance (1000 nits) or high luminance (1500 nits) option on the player?

My TV is a SAMSUNG 65KS8000....

I know you're supposed to choose what your TV is capable of... but I have no idea how to find that information out.
