surround sound

hey guys i dont want any thing fancy just a ok surround sound my room is small and just want a surround sound any thing cheap or good enough not the best thing out there something i could just hook up my ps3 with and watch my blu rays with surround sound is there any thing out there ?

Onkyo 606 and Polk 6750.....or you can waste a bunch of time and money wishing you would have gotten an Onkyo 606 and Polk 6750.

For the record, I don't own the Onkyo AVR or Polk Speakers....but I would if I was starting out.

If you really just want something cheap and easy then you don't need the Onkyo 606. I would still recommend you pick up a seperate receiver and speakers though as it will allow you to upgrade in the future much easier. (plus it will sound better than any HTiB)

Since you have a PS3 you should atleast get a receiver that accepts LPCM (so you can take advantage of the HD audio blu-ray has)

Marantz 4002
Sony STR-DG720
Sony STR-DH700

Speaker packages:

Energy Take Classic (pretty cheap on ebay)
Polk package (mentioned above)

I'm sure others will chime in, but do whats best for you.

You can, but it's HDMI passthrough, which means that HDMI won't carry your audio signal so you would have to buy an optical cable that only provides lossy audio.

Lossy audio in "regular" digital sound, not HD sound. Thus, the HD audio tracks in your BD movies will be wasted.

I don't think you can use this for blu-ray playback. It has a DVD player in it and there are no HD inputs (component or HDMI) I am gathering from your gallery that you are using your PS3 for blu-ray's so you can't connect it to this player. You could connect your Optical audio cable from your PS3 into this unit but you will only get Core Audio of DD or DTS. If you say you've got a $500 budget to spend, I'd recommend you save a little longer to get a HTIB that offers HDMI in and offers HD audio too. Trust me, it will be will worth the wait and I don't think your too far from the $ range either.

Ok, here is what I think you should get. The reciever is seperate but the speakers come packaged together.

This will give you full HD-audio since you're using a PS3. If you decide to go this route all you need to get is some speaker cable. Monoprice.com will have that. We can provide links to exactly what you need if you decide to do this.

Those were the cheapest I could find doing a quick search. You might be able to find them a little cheaper if you searched around but those are pretty good prices as it is. Let us know what you decide.
