The thing about "Lorelei" is that I keep humming it every time I watch the Eurotrash that is THE LORELEI'S GRASP...which isn't very often, as that film is lame-o!

I'm just sad the stereo version of the English version of Flight of the Dragon has never made it out there.

And of course Jackie guarding my HK VHS

The first Jackie film I watched after seeing the Incredibly Strange Film Show episode. Rented this VHS tape from the local video store the next day (was only 9 years old, so thanks mum and sad) and was blown away. Managed to convince my dad to purchase a copy via another video store for 10 and watched it so many times. I remember the trailer for APOCALYPSE MERCENARIES and loved the artwork. Cant wait for this to get the treatment it deserves.

I like the versions in the film (Midnight Rider; Pan Yau; Lorelei) over their counterparts in other languages.

I think we can all agree that this movie has a kick-ass soundtrack!

I prefer the english versions all the way. Midnight Riders lyrics sounds a bit strange in cantonese. Not the actual meaning of the lyrics, but the sound of the words which don't flow as well. The english version of Lorelei is really cool.

Btw, think I read some interesting story a couple of years ago about the production of Alan Tams songs, something about how the english Midnight Rider was produced in Japan and the cantonese one in Hongkong by a chinese producer and they ended up with a vastly different sound. Can anyone else relate to this triva?

Love the soundtrack on this however I'm embarrassed to admit that until very recently I always thought the chorus in Lorelei was "You're Alive!"

Maybe because you first hear it after the silence and the death defying fall. I thought it was Jackie singing it to himself in the third person.

I didn't read anything about this, but this would explain the vastly different sound on the canto/english versions which I was always wondering about. Check it out:

Midnight Rider English:

Lorelei English:

It helps that the Lorelei and Love Trap albums are probably top 5 in Tam's large body of work.

One of his best albums is 愛的根源 (Root of Love) in 1984. That album had a few tracks that were part of HK films. The one I remember most, mainly due to seeing it when I was so young, was off of Other Side of Gentleman, an early Ringo Lam film:

This is a bit of a mess but from what I can gather it appears that Alan Tams "Thunder Arm" LP from 1986, which features among others Lorelei, Midnight Rider and Friend of mine is a japanese production by Yutaka Saito.
The album consists of english language versions of cantonese Alan Tam songs.
The Lorelei album which features those 3 songs in cantonese is a chinese production by William Kwan and was released in 1985.

All 3 songs are composed by Hiroaki Serizawa and the english lyrics are written by Linda Hennick.

Feel free to correct me if needed!

Yep, Thunder Arm has the three big songs on it in English. Unfortunately it’s missing the Alan/Jackie duet version of Friend Of Mine

Listening to the songs posted here makes me want to go and watch the film but I only have a Fortune Star R3 DVD which was a remastered edition but still probably won't look that good.

I also want to wait for the 1080p goodness that 88 are going to deliver.

Decisions, decisions, to watch or not watch!

How long do you want to wait to watch it? No release date yet for Armour. The Young Master just got pushed back to February. Snake is due in March; that is, if it's on time. So, probably after Snake comes out, I would guess. Maybe we could get one new movie a month from 88, which would be nice. But, so far, we don't know how many titles will see release this year. Some people know, but, obviously they aren't allowed to say, I would imagine. So, no idea how long before it sees a blu-ray release. Too bad they can't release them all at once then we could just get what we want when we can afford it. But, figuring they have some kind of business model they have to follow regarding releases to stay "in the black".
