I just got it on my laptop last night. If you have an external hard drive, back all of your stuff up because you are screwed, big time.

just saying "he's screwed" doesn't really help him out in any way, now does it

bagel- this page contains various ways to remove spyware protect. my friend had it too and this ended up getting rid of it. follow the instructions carefully and good luck!

I just got that last week and was able to get rid of it with this:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Download it...free it is...and it takes it right off.

Its actually a great program for I downloaded it last year when I had a trojan that for the life of me, I couldnt get rid of. AGain, this took it right off.

Thats not true. I had this issue on my laptop just a few weeks back. Ran Malware bytes and took care of it, in a matter of minutes. While i would agree backing up your files is a good idea, he's not completely out of options. I lost 0 data...

safe mode is a beast lol the programs dont die in safemode so now i can download and run that program......by the way i was thinking that the same people who made spyware protect also made malwarebytes just to get people to buy it

look for a file called guardsys in the c:/windows directory somewhere. Make sure that file gets deleted as well.

Like he said. I somehow picked that one up a few weeks ago too and malwarebytes smoked it.

If you open your task manager there is a file in there that you may need to stop first under the Processes tab. I think it was obvious, like Protect2009 or something. You may have to 'end' that from running first and then download the malwarebytes.

I also lost nothing.

Thats odd.....

When the 'program' first showed up, it wanted me to run it (which I did not do). But, it kept popping up windows trying to get me to run it...probably at least every minute even after I "X-ed" out of it.

Did you by chance run the program? Maybe if you did...the infestation goes a bit more deeper than Malewarebytes is able to take care of.
