Unhappy Fox to continue with High Pricing trend ?

It looks like Fox is all set to resume their high pricing trend with their upcoming Blu-ray titles. Complaints have slowly started surfacing in avsforum. I hope that they price similar to BVHE.

Sadly, I am so addicted, high prices won't stop me from owning close to 20 of what they have already announced.

*sigh*

$23.95 is the most I have paid for a Blu yet. Most have been $19.95. If it's not really a "got to have" movie for me I can wait till the prices drop. Fox does have alot of good titles though.

Yes most companies release "list" price. Most dealers sell up to 40% off list. This is known as map price.

Fox has been guilty of this for years now, even with DVD.

Anyways, if you're paying anywhere clost to MSRP for...anything, really, you need to start shopping smarter.

I do agree that Fox's BD are a bit too expensive in contrast with other studios' BD's.

Perhaps it's the DTS-MA licensing & mastering fee

Just take a look at the prices Best Buy is charging for Heroes Season 1. The difference between DVD and hd-dvd prices is staggering.

Still, you end up paying about $8 more for a Fox title on Amazon than a Warner catalog. And about $4 in general.

Naturaly, if they were ever release on HD DVD their prices would suddenly drop because, umm, because wishful thinking demands that.

You can say the same about Smallville Season 6 at Bestbuy.
Blu-ray &HD-DVD 99.99
DVD 48.99 (Mostly likely first week will be 39.99)

I'm not sure why Fox Blu-rays cost about $5 more than other companies. Most of the blu-rays I'm missing are from Fox. I'm noting buying a movie for $27.00, hopefully we'll have a sell with some Fox titles. I spent 27.00 if it's a Buy 1 get 1 free or even a Buy 2 get 1 free.

Honestly it makes no difference to me. I will still be purchasing a ton of titles from FOX this holiday season.

Terrible news, I wish they would bring their prices in-line with other studios, i.e. $30 for catalogue and $35/40 for D&D.

Because they'll sell tens of thousands of the DVD, so it's worth it to loss leader it, when at best they'll move what, 2K HD DVDs?

Basically at those numbers they know everyone will go online for it

If they're going to charge that much for their movies they could at least upgrade to AVC encoding like Disney & Sony.

The only movie of their's that has listed the video specs has been "Pathfinder" & it's going to be MPEG-2.

They have. All their new movies are AVC

Pathfinder was done a long time ago. It's one of those "Oh man, this is crap, better release it in the Feb-Apr window where there's nothing else" (and sometimes we like those movies anyway)

As much as I hate their high pricing, I still keep in perspective that this is still just a niche format. You take the good with the bad and it won't keep me from owning at least 15 of their announced titles. Can't wait!

I will still continue to not purchase their titles. That pricing is outrageous for catalog titles. I love Blu-ray but I also don't like companies trying to take advantage of me, the consumer. So far I haven't spent more than $20 for any of my Blu-ray titles. Most have actually been $16 or less thanks to all those 2for1 or $10 off google checkout coupons.

If you go to www.moretonbayblu-ray.com they have Smallville for less than $57 on BR. Best Buy is rediculous as far as prices. I usually get mine from the Fry's behind the Wal-Mart I work at unless we have them there too. Then I use my discount on them there.
