On this issue of listing one's physical media collection, I see plenty of members, who like me, don't do it.

I was simply reminding those whom could benefit from it what a moderator just posted yesterday. His comment covers that rule also as "bashing" and "name calling/ harassment" are pretty much the same thing.

I am not telling anyone what to do, so I am hardly playing "pseudo-mod", but I am trying to remind people of the warning that we all just received.

No one has to list their collection. Some people prefer to keep what they own private and others just don't care enough to do it. It takes a long time to list a large collection and I can easily understand why someone might not want to do so.

But member mdo7 wasn't here yesterday. And if he happened to read the moderator's post, he has chosen to ignore it.

And you did not admonish him in any way for his offensive post so IMO you have failed acting as a Pseudo-Mod. Objectivity should be a requirement for any moderator, even one playing as one.

Ah. So you don't agree with his faulty reasoning that if one choses not to list their collection, it's because they don't have one. That's good to know.

I named no one in my comments and I admonished no one. I saw the potential for a situation to deteriorate, so I quoted the moderator as a reminder hoping that all of us could benefit from it.

Honestly Villya, I believe this is a case of trying to nail JELL-O to the wall. No matter how hard you try, no matter how many people tell you it won't work, some will continue in their endeavors.

Agreed. I keep my list in Movie Collector and import those files into this site 2 or 3 times a year. In Movie Collector I create a text list for all titles, westerns, 3-D, immersive audio, UHD BD, not viewed and 1.85 titles. All imported into WordPerfect (via macro) then saved as PDF to a tablet.

Your lists are far more detailed than mine; I keep the lists of my collections up to date because it helps me to avoid buying things twice.

The only way his will change is for business/consumer networked systems to use something like the zero trust security methodology.

Zero trust security means that no one is trusted by default from inside or outside the network, and verification is required from everyone trying to gain access to resources on the network. This added layer of security has been shown to prevent data breaches.

The standard business practice is to lock down computers so a worker cannot configure or install anything (software, drivers, files) without it be trusted, and at the same time monitor all IP port activity for anything outside of the normal operations. Even to the point that the computer has disk wiped reimaged, when enough factors declare it to be untrustworthy.

The problem right now isn't on the business server side, but a lot can be done on ISP to consumers, and I don't mean just malware software. That is to identify possible activity and block specific TCP and UDP port ranges that are involved.

Currently being the key word. New releases=increased disc sales and bigger profit due to more expensive formats. It’s not rocket science. Lee makes it sound like a exclusive and some big breaking news. We need new releases, it’s that simple.

DVDs have such a huge share because we have people who haven’t watched films for years suddenly buying stuff for their family. DVD is cheap and most people have a player still or certainly a console that will play back DVD. Your average Soccer mums and working parents aren’t going to be collecting films in a high quality format, it’s just something to keep the kids quiet or free up the computer/internet for working from Home and home schooling.

We need new blockbusters to see blockbuster sales for Blu-ray and UHD. In the meantime, collectors are doing what we can do, which is buying catalogue and indie releases for the most part.

Home Entertainment Spending in 2020 Up 21% to Record $30 Billion, DEG Says

Consumer spending on home entertainment in 2020 shot up more than 21% from the prior year to a record $30 billion, spurred by movie theater closures and stay-at-home orders brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, according to estimates released Jan. 27 by DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group.

The trade group noted that digital spending accounted for the majority of the gains, led by subscription streaming, which saw spending climb 37.2% to an estimated $21.2 billion.

Transactional video spending also posted significant increases, with digital rentals up 18.3% in 2020 over 2019 and digital sales, or electronic sellthrough (EST), up 16%. According to DEG estimates, consumers spent more than $2.3 billion renting movies and other filmed content through digital retailers (both cable and Internet) in 2020, compared to just under $2 billion in 2019, and nearly $3 billion on purchases, up from $2.6 billion the prior year.

Consumers spent an estimated $2.5 billion on buying Blu-ray Discs, DVDs and 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays, down 25.6% from $3.3 billion the prior year. Disc sales had been declining for years but in 2020 sales were further diluted by retail store closures in the months following the World Health Organization’s March 11 declaration of a global pandemic.

In the fourth quarter, the DEG reported, total consumer spending on home entertainment rose nearly 16% from 2019 to an estimated $7.8 billion. Again, streaming led the way, with spending up 33% to an estimated $5.6 billion, or 72% of the total.
