$78.63 for me -- and I bought it the moment it went live.

Yeah, I actually like the steel, the box and the movie, and therefore checked the total price, but had to pass to Germany as well. Would've cost me roundabout 50 € plus, since Brexit, another very likely 9.50 € import tax on top of it. No, thanks. And yay, Brexit - I actually do hope it's at least biting those, who voted for it, in the ass as well now.

That's a pretty-looking slipbox, but I also get a chuckle out of Uma Thurman smiling at sad little Jude Law in his wheelchair on her shoulder.

At least thanks to the EverythingBlu listing we can see what the back of the mass-produced steel will look like.

Zoom is a site that is owned by Sony and Universal. They use it for shifting excess stock, which often includes Sony UHDs shortly after their release.

Hence why one might draw the conclusion Sony is making a lot of these UHDs relative to it's market share, and perhaps more cheaply. So they can afford to quickly discount stock.

Owned by Universal alone, not Sony AFAIK. Paramount and Sony and Universal's stuff all ends up at £10 in one offer or another, and most of the others like Lionsgate, StudioCanal and Disnee aren't too far away with 2 for £25/£30 or 3 for £36 offers.

Seeing as you're not a spanner, here's my reasoning:

There's always been a bigger margin on UHDs from majors than is strictly necessary I think, owing to the numbers of discs that they produce, but I'm still happy to pay up front for something like Spartacus or JAWS or Blues Brothers just to reflect the work that's gone into them. Stuff that I'm not desperate to see again and/or modern toss that's just a reheated DI...not so much.

NOT that I don't think those DI gains aren't worth it, I've cheerleaded for 2012 in that thread, but I can wait for those to drop, and drop they shall. District 9, Elysium, 2012, oh mai! That'll be a 3 for £30 with my name all over it.

Gattaca isn't some quick DI jobbie, no, it's gonna have a proper 4K transfer, but as it's not something high on my rewatch list I can also wait for an offer. And all the while I'm spending £60 on American Werewolf and £35 on Fanny Lye and £45 on Breastmaster and £40 on Obsession and £50 on Midsommar and £33 on Akira and £30 each on Tremors and Crash, so my conscience is clear: I'm supporting the little guys and giving the majors the business when the time is right. Come to think of it, lately I'm buying more tat editions from the majors anyway, so they're still getting money out of me either way!

That’s the same artwork I have for my current 1080p version of the movie. When the steelbook arrives, I plan to slip that artwork into a standard 4K case.

God bless you guys paying $70+. This really highlights how beloved this movie is, & it’s truly a deserving film. A glorious movie from frame to frame.

Yes, I know about zoom.uk . I've ordered from there several times.

That was kind the point I was wondering about, i.e. if someone suspected that these movies were going to be a cheap quick-n-dirty 4K remaster job with lower technical quality (I sure hope not!), so they would end up as 3 for £30 soon.

But apparently someone (not you) thought I was an idiot to ask for clarification about that.

The standard edition is better than the steelbook but I will buy the steelbook.

I’m not a fan of steelbooks on my shelf because they don’t match with regular cases. Only have a steelbook for Dark City on the shelf. I’ll put Gattaca in a regular 4K case with the standard blu artwork.

I think I’m just gonna hope there will be an eventual standard US release. That SteelBook is just too ugly for me to spend ~$30 on. Kinda odd that Sony is launching this title with ONLY a Steel.

If your familiar with Sonys UHD back catalogue, and Zooms offers. You must know it's no reflection on the quality of the transfers.

The colour scheme definitely doesn’t gel with the film.

Looks like there is going to be a standard 4K edition in Canada too! So excited and definitely picking this up and NOT the steelbook
