Sorry for the delay, been extremely busy! haha
3D was extremely important to me as I didn’t want to make my 3D collection obsolete. I chose an UST as I didn’t want to do the traditional mounting, long cable runs, light bulb changes, etc.. and liked the convenience of a projector that basically is set up just like a TV. I removed the old TV and multimedia stand, hung the screen and placed the projector where the TV and stand use to be. Connected my AVR, AppleTV and Blu-Ray player. It’s that simple.

I initially had an Optoma P2 but the 3D was too dark as the image wasn’t bright enough to compensate for the glasses. However, there was zero crosstalk with the Active DLP link 3D.

I returned the Optoma and opted for the Epson LS500 as a couple reviewers wrote that it had the best 3D performance of any home projector (UST and long). This is the brightest UST projector on the market and best 4K image (not native) out of the USTs that have 3D. Samsung and LG UST do not support 3D. VAVA, Optoma and Epson do support 3D.

When in Vivid or Bright Cinema mode, the light output is at 100%. This was designed to help prevent washed out images when watching during the day where projectors typically have trouble.

By using either of these modes at night, this is the extra brightness needed to compensate for the 3D Active RF glasses resulting in the same bright and colorful 3D from a 3D TV. However, their is occasional crosstalk on material known to have crosstalk on active 3D TVs which might be an issue for people use to passive 3D.

Another note... when watching 4K at night in cinema mode, the light output is only at 50% resulting in very minimal fan noise. But when the projector is at 100% light output (Vivid and Bright Cinema mode) the fan is fairly loud. It gets drowned out by the AVR, but in quiet scenes, you will hear the fan.

The other small issue is the Active RF glasses. The best available on Amazon from Xpand are terrible. I had the Xpand Active DLP for the Optoma and they were the best 3D glasses I ever used. So naturally I ordered the Xpand RF version only to find out they are not nearly as nice. Frame is flimsy, lenses scratch easily, does not fit well over glasses. Unfortunately, I haven’t found anything that would be better yet.
