I predicted that you would never buy any 4K disc player, that you would hold out forever for your dream machine, but I have seldom been happier to be wrong about something.

I hope that you enjoy your new 4K disc player every bit as much as I enjoy mine.

I plan to buy a Panasonic 9000 myself as I need a second 4K disc player, but I have my sights set on a new subwoofer first.

I recently got the venerable SVS PB16-Ultra to replace a late 90's Velodyne Servo F-1500 that now makes only loud higher-pitched noise as long as it is on. When you get an SVS ported subwoofer, it no longer comes with three port plugs for using it as a sealed sub (it only comes with one,) but all you need to do is simply ask SVS for the remaining two and they will send them to you.

I bought the Panasonic for the reasons described two posts above yours. I hadn't yet thought of that idea when I said I would never own a player. This is the player I would have gotten for the projector room anyway. I'll eventually try to give you a review of the machine on its own thread. For my review of my OLED, click here.

I'm pretty sure that you can refer to a company by its full name in any thread. In fact, you just did so twice:

The SVS PB16 Ultra is too big for my room; I'm considering either the SVS SB 4000 or the REL HT/1508, but that is a topic for another thread.

I am very happy that you can now enjoy 4K disc playback while you wait for your ideal player with HDR10+ support.

Both of those companies make subwoofers and have nothing to do with Ultra HD Blu-ray players.

Then let's get back on topic with the names of 4K disc player manufacturers, past, present, and upcoming: Samsung, Sony, oppo, Cambridge, LG, Philips, Panasonic, Pioneer, and Tascam debuting on March 2nd.

I mentioned them each by name and I am pretty sure that no forum rules were broken by my doing so.

PLEASE STOP with the initials and type out the companies name. There is nothing either per the rules or forum etiquette that says you should be using the initials of a competitor in X thread about X companies products.

You've come so far buying a player IRL, now let's take another baby step and type out the names/nick names.

Whoa! What is this voodoo? Blu-ray.com forum member “BM” bought a Panasonic oops, other Japanese company “P” UHD player?! So now he can actually use that new tv? Madness! I’m waiting for Rod Serling to walk out and tell me I’ve crossed over into the Twilight Zone. If this is true, congrats and welcome to the 4K UHD zone.

I'm not sure this is the right thread to ask this...you know, a question about the LX500?

First time I've tried to play the Wonder Woman 4k uhd disc on this player (using an Athem MRX-720 receiver and displaying on a Sony Z9D) and it can barely play it. Multiple freezes and now every time I load the disc it spits it out without even displaying anything. Anyone having any issue with their WW 4k? Any ideas how to get this to work? The disc is spotless. I figure it's probably not something Pioneer will address if I contact them.

Your disc likely has a pressing defect causing some of the pits to be unreadable. Even if the disc is clean and unscratched, the layers could have been "smushed" together in at least one area during pressing causing all of the pits in that/those particular area(s) on at least two different layers to be out of focus and indistinguishable. You will not know that your disc is like this until you run the entire disc through a player or computer drive. If you have a computer drive, you can download a program called Nero DiscSpeed and use the ScanDisc function. To make sure it's your disc, if you have a friend who also has this disc, try borrowing and playing their copy. If their copy works, go to the store where you bought the disc from and ask for a replacement. If a replacement is not available, request one from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

Spotless or not, try cleaning it anyways. Sometimes there can be a filmy residue on the disc that might not be plainly visible. Cleaning the disc is an easy thing to try if you haven't already.

It's bad enough that this thread has become your personal Pioneer phantasy land without you now wishing that the long unavailable LX 500 had features found on the Panasonic 9000. Talk about the Panasonic in its own thread where you can dare to spell out its name.

No news about the Pioneer LX 500 in your comments and nothing substantive about it, either; just you wish this and you wish that, blah blah blah. You have posted in this thread more than anyone else (196 times) and you do not even own one; you just endlessly daydream that it will return to market with features that it never had.

The Panasonic has the features that you want and you now own one, so stop obsessing about what the unobtainable Pioneer LX 500 lacks. Go haunt the Panasonic thread.

I’m talking about ideas for the next Pioneer model after the LX500 and LX800. Also, the Panasonic is a CD-only machine for audio discs. It stopped making DVD-Audio machines a long time ago, and if they wanted to make Super Audio CD-capable machines, they would have to get the rights from Sony, who often didn’t want to support Panasonic's formats and wouldn’t let Panasonic support their formats.

Look who’s back haunting the Blu-ray.com forum with his theory that the just-turning-five Ultra HD Blu-ray has no future! Blu-ray turns 15, DVD turns 25 and CD turns 39, and they’re all still going strong! Why would Ultra HD Blu-ray not have a future after only five years?!

UPDATE: His post has now been deleted.

Blu-ray actually has been around a little longer than 15 years. For consumers though in USA it's 15 years. Sony released for home use a cartridge Blu-ray type recorder in Japan back in 2003 so in Japan it's 18 years. It also recorded on DVD, you had to buy the Blu-ray cartridges to record on BD and it won't play non cartridge BD's. It counts though imo.

I think UHD will be around for quite sometime.

Unfortunately, consumer electronic manufacturers like Pioneer, are killing off Blu Ray disc players, that's we did get any UHD player announcements from any of them. I'm glad I have an LX-500 from Pioneer, the last of its kind.
