According to Shout's site, 11/13/20

Most Shout titles will still be available in stores after Shout says they are officially OOP. Road House for instance is still reasonable priced at Amazon despite Shout's site saying it went OOP 7/17/20.

This one was already dried up and OOS all over and went from no notice to the OOP list. It was never on the going OOP list/page until it was gone, just like Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.

The Logan Lucky BD combo can easily be found at CVS and 7 Eleven for $4.99.
I have a feeling Universal will re-release it as a BD only release (ditching the DVD and digital copy).
They did that with titles such as Lone Survivor, and Get Out.

It's possible Universal no longer has the home video rights. The Amazon streaming version only credits Bleecker Street, the original entity that released it.

What I would give to not pay $100 to get an unopened, unused copy of the US Cocoon disc..

Sooo.... I would guess what you would give would be under $100?

Yeah, Cocoon is one of those I missed too. The Ghosts of OOPs are really haunting me right now....

That's probably what happened no doubt. Another example is Boyhood (an IFC Films title), which was originally distributed by Paramount in the US and released it in a DVD+BD combo pack. Paramount let the video rights lapse (though they still have TV and streaming rights) and IFC licenced it to Criterion who had put out their own blu.

Check your local libraries for a copy (if you feel it's safe to go that is). I used to interloan tons of rare and OOP from other libraries and picked them up at my closest one. Haven't gone to one since the pandemic, but damn I sure do miss it.

I remember when Boyhood came out on BD from Paramount. I'm fairly sure IFC announced at the same time that there was an eventual Criterion coming. The BD license to Paramount was just a one-off for a limited time, because the film was an unexpectedly massive hit and IFC wanted a big studio to distribute that first barebones home video effectively to the mass market.

This article doesn't mention the license being for a limited duration, but does mention the reason:

After its theatrical run, Amy Reinhard, Paramount’s president of worldwide television and home media acquisitions, promises to “bring all of Paramount’s … resources to bear and leverage our numerous distribution platforms in order to ensure that Boyhood reaches the broadest possible audience.”

Not the same as the Scream disc, but the Steelbook from MGM is 5.95 at Hamilton right now.

Arrow Video's Bride of Re-Animator (the Limited Dual-Format release with both versions of the film), Arrow Video's Phantasm Collection (the Limited Edition release with a booklet and a sphere), Arrow Video's Raising Cain (the Limited Dual-Format Edition release with both versions of the film and a booklet).

The UK Eureka Classics release can still be imported fairly inexpensively and contains everything from the US disc plus an isolated score. Highly recommend, not sure if region-locked. (US unlocked here)

What do you do, say you lost it and pay the MSRP or whatever elevated value they attach to it?

That will probably be around for a bit too as it's not a big popular title. I ended up getting it from Shout to up my total into free shipping with something else a month or 2 ago. Fun flick, watched it a couple weeks ago and hadn't seen it before. Should be a cult classic, but just hasn't found enough eyes would be my guess.

Rolling Thunder is another one that has been OOP for a while now but still cheap and easy on amazon. Thought that did have a cult following already, must be a small cult.

The problem with those is they are crap compared to the Shout. Shout has better picture, original sound (minus the one song they couldn't clear, but worth it for the real zombie voices alone) and tons of extras the MGM version doesn't. It's OK for someone who just wants the movie in any form, but it isn't the proper form by a damn sight.

yeah I had that sitting in Amazon watchlist and then boom price went mad a while back and it's still high and still not available at most other places, I did just think to check Barnes&Nobles though and they still have it in stock for list price (i.e. wayyy less than Amazon third party).
