Interesting choice. I’m still not entirely convinced this’ll add much you can’t get from the games, but I’m interested all the same.

Unless they change the story up, I honestly think it’s pretty pointless. The series is already incredibly cinematic, and I don’t see them somehow improving the performances the games had. Add to that the interactivity of a game being far more immersive than sitting on your couch and just watching a show... I dunno. Doesn’t seem like a worthwhile endeavor.

The majority of the people who will watch it on HBO, have never played the video game, and probably never will.

So it's a new story to them in a way.

Lol, no thanks. Not that she's awful but I don't see her as Ellie.

Well, that's who you're going to get. LOL! I'll hold off judgement until I see the first trailer. Bella doesn't exactly look the part but who knows. She was fantastic in Game of Thrones. As long as she gets the character down, I don't really care that she's not an Ellie doppelganger.

Um I kind of love both these choices, but unless the storyline differs strongly from the games, I just don't see the point. The Last of Us has some of the best performances from anything in the past decade. It already looks realistic. It's already directed incredibly well... I don't see what re-doing that storyline, in a less interactive form, is really going to do for the material that wasn't already accomplished. Especially when said materials most dramatic moments were produced with such fine performances to begin with. I guess I'll have to wait and see, but I still don't quite see the point in adapting Last of Us.

I'm down for Pedro. He'll be great. I'm not sure about Bella as she has more of a villain look than a series lead.

For people who do not play video games?

A good point. But, the people who never played the games wouldn't know Ellie and Joel anyway. So for them it wouldn't have mattered one iota if the protagonists had been others.

Having other protagonists would have gone some way to making the show stand out from the games. I mean, other protagonists might mean another region, perhaps not even set in America. Because some of these folks here make a pretty good point. The games are already cinematic and feature characters so layered and real that having Joel and Ellie front and center once more feels even more like a do-over. Although I'm still excited and who knows how it's going to play out.

Slightly related, this is why I think Bella is a great choice. Precisely because she doesn't look like Ellie. I want this HBO show to be its own thing.

Hopefully the Blu-ray and UHD 4K will have Dolby Atmos similar to HBO's Game of Thrones, and Amazons (Paramounts) Jack Ryan.

I know this is a Blu-ray forum but let them shoot a single frame of footage first before we start whining about technical A/V aspects for home media release that’s certainly a few years off.....

Looks like they just threw darts at a picture wall and said "yeah close enough" Jeez, they didn't even try.

Or you know, they’ve probably auditioned, screen tested and decided on that like they do thousands of other productions.

I have no clue why people are caught up on the ‘look’ of a fictional character. They were never going to get and exact fit for the look of the characters and it’s more important to get someone who can pull their weight in acting terms. If you’re getting hung up on the look of the characters, more than likely you don’t need this adaptation as it’s going to defer from you’re preferential treatment of the story which are in the games.

I’m one of those who doesn’t need this adaptation and even I think the casting is still damn good. Pedro radiates Joel energy. Silly dad jokes, kind and caring, yet dark, tortured, and capable of great violence. Dude is perfect. Bella has showcased her talents in Game of Thrones as well with her commanding and scene stealing presence. These two are excellent choices.

As far as the adaptation existing for people who don’t play games, I kind of agree, but 2021 offers you a lot of ways to consume a game storyline without directly playing it. It’d be pretty easy to watch a movie or series edit of the two games. But it doesn’t really matter. It’s being made and all I can do is hope for the best.

I'm looking forward to it.

Don't think it'll be as good as the game.

That won't bother me.

Good. They got an actual Texan for the role of Joel.
